System Design Manager, Dyno Nobel Inc., Tariffville, CT:

Drive innovation related to surface and underground blasting for electronic initiating systems, individual products, and methodologies. Maintain awareness of competitor products, patent applications, and emerging mechanical technologies to inform strategic product development. Evaluate and validate the mechanical application suitability and feasibility of new electronic initiating solutions through concept evaluation and hands-on prototype development, ensuring robust and reliable designs for underground and surface mining applications. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure an understanding of product requirements and goals, fostering seamless integration of mechanical and electronic components. Generate system specifications to accurately define the development and implementation of new mechanical concepts, ensuring adherence to design principles, market requirements and manufacturing best practices for electronic initiation and blasting systems. Develop cost estimates, forecasts and strategies for development projects from a mechanical design, industrial design, and qualification perspectives. Provide clear insights into mechanical development progress and ensure the achievement of agreed deliverables. Champion adherence to DetNet policies, procedures, and project flow processes, ensuring all engineering gate requirements are met and contributing to frameworks within the mechanical development lifecycle. Ensure all mechanical testing and technical documentation comply with relevant ISO, EN, SANS, and MIL specifications, upholding the highest standards of quality and reliability in designs. Mandate the implementation of stringent development safety requirements.

Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field and 10 years of work experience in industrial design. Employer will accept a 3- or 4-year bachelor's degree.

Must have 10 years of experience in each of the following:

  • Applying mechanical principles and understanding of metal, plastic and composite materials to stress analysis, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) analysis, and mechanism design;

  • Manufacturing processes, including injection molding, casting, machining, additive manufacturing, stamping, welding, and assembly techniques;

  • Industry-standard Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Design Data Management (DDM) software; and

  • Industrial prototyping techniques and software.

Must have 8 years of experience testing methodologies for mechanical, environmental, performance, reliability, and safety validation.

Must have 5 years of experience in each of the following:

  • Design for electronic blasting equipment;

  • International standards for the safe qualification of electronic detonators and associated equipment;

  • Planning, scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, budgeting, and tracking progress for product development initiatives; and

  • Working across multidisciplinary technical teams towards a shared product vision.

International travel required up to 5%; Domestic travel required up to 10%.
