Summary
Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, the Certified Pharmacy Technician I performs routine technical and operational duties to support safe, timely pharmacy services in accordance with established policies and applicable regulations. Responsibilities include preparing, packaging, labeling, and distributing unit-dose medications, outpatient prescriptions, and stock orders; delivering medications and supplies to patient care areas; and supporting proper storage, rotation, and inventory practices. The technician documents work using pharmacy information systems and departmental tools as trained and may be assigned to central pharmacy and/or specialized areas based on operational needs. The role also includes auditing medication storage areas, escalating discrepancies, and handling controlled substances per departmental policy. The technician may assist with onboarding and training of junior staff and participate in departmental projects and quality and safety initiatives as assigned. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, follow established policies and procedures to perform a variety of routine support tasks that are integral to the operation of the pharmacy department. Demonstrate familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices. Support the operations of the pharmacy and ensure the safe and efficient delivery of medications and healthcare products. Utilize area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems. Demonstrate professionalism and effectively communicate with patients and caregivers to gather information and/or triage inquiries. Audit medication storage areas utilizing data collection tools, as applicable.
