The Children's Hospital Colorado campus in Colorado Springs opened in 2019 as southern Colorado's first full-service pediatric hospital. This 294,000-square-foot, six-story facility provides advanced pediatric and neonatal care closer to home for families not only in Southern Colorado, but a seven-state region including Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, and South Dakota. The hospital offers approximately 115 inpatient beds, including more than 50-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), 16-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and pediatric medical-surgical inpatient units. It is also home to southern Colorado's only dedicated pediatric Emergency Department, Level 2 Pediatric Trauma center, and the region's first pediatric-only operating rooms, pediatric oncology and infusion services, advanced imaging, pediatric sleep laboratory and comprehensive pediatric specialty care. The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical care services at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO), Colorado Springs. Key Responsibilities: * The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services primarily for General Pediatric Surgical patients of the Children's Hospital Colorado-Colorado Springs. * Duties will include primarily inpatient with some outpatient clinical responsibilities related to a full spectrum of general pediatric surgical patients with a heavy emphasis on trauma and neonatal care. * Representative responsibilities will include: o initial patient assessments/consults, o timed response to trauma activations, o performing primary and secondary surveys, comprehensive general management of trauma patients, o rounding on hospitalized patients, o clinical documentation (daily notes, history and physicals, discharge summaries), o patient education, o multi-disciplinary care coordination, o first-assist in OR, clinic (outpatient) care, and performing minor procedures. * Close collaboration with pediatric general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, and hospital medicine will be necessary. * Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and primary care providers is essential. * The candidate will provide care to patients in the pediatric unit, pediatric intensive care unit, newborn intensive care unit, acute care areas, and in the outpatient clinics. * APP coverage is 24/7 in this hospital; therefore, the work schedule will include days, in-house overnight, weekends and holiday coverage. |
Qualifications: |
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master's degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program * Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges (of those candidates with a Nurse Practitioner degree, an acute care certification is required) * Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant) * Current ATLS or successful completion within three months of hire * Current BLS prior to hire and PALS certifications at time of or within three months of hire Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in general surgery, trauma, critical care, and pediatrics preferred * First assist or surgical assist certification and experience preferred Conditions of Employment: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
