Posting Summary
The Department of Environmental Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct research on applied climatology. This position will work with the Office of the New Jersey State Climatologist to evaluate compound climate risks across the state, including combined flooding from sea level rise, storm surge, and inland rainfall, storm-induced extreme winds and precipitation, and sequential synoptic weather systems or predecessor events. The position will involve developing probabilistic frameworks to characterize compound hazard frequency and severity under current and future climate states. The position offers the candidate the opportunity to work with stakeholders across New Jersey and the mid-Atlantic region and to provide physical insights for risk assessment on topics such as sea level, air quality, and agricultural impacts, among others. Successful candidates will be involved with observational data analysis, numerical modeling of natural hazards, and outreach to local stakeholders. Candidates will present research findings through publications, publicly available data visualization tools, academic presentations, and public engagement.

Minimum Education and Experience
The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in an area relevant to climate physics, atmospheric or ocean science, climate change, natural hazards, impact analysis, and/or numerical modeling. Experience in modeling and evaluating the impacts of climate and climate change, large-scale data analysis and interpretation, and independent research is required.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a publication record consistent with their career level, and an interest in applying climate and climate change data to answer practical, relevant research questions. Specific expertise in atmosphere-ocean interactions, atmospheric feature tracking, and extreme event analysis, configuring and running regional weather and hydrodynamic models, and/or other numerical modeling experience is preferred.
