Job Summary:
The Senior IS Business Analyst serves as a strategic liaison between clinical stakeholders, operational leadership, and IT teams to design, implement, and optimize electronic health record (EHR) solutions and other clinical technologies. Over the next two years, this role will primarily lead and support the organization's implementation of a new EHR system, ensuring successful planning, deployment, adoption, and optimization. This is a hybrid role based out of our Chicago office. Some travel to sites is required. This role leads requirements gathering, workflow analysis, change management, and system design efforts to support clinical documentation, care coordination, regulatory compliance, and reporting needs. Additionally, they will partner with leaders, end users, and vendors to drive implementation activities, process improvements, training, and stakeholder engagement while providing ongoing support and optimization of clinical workflows and system functionality.
Sr IS Business Analyst Job Responsibilities:
Clinical & Workflow Analysis
- Partner with clinical and operational leaders to evaluate current workflows and identify improvement opportunities.
- Conduct workflow and gap analyses to design future-state processes aligned with best practices, regulatory requirements, and system capabilities.
- Support workflow redesign and optimization efforts related to the implementation of the organization's new EHR system.
Requirements Management & Solution Design
- Lead requirements gathering through stakeholder interviews, workshops, and observations.
- Translate clinical and business needs into functional requirements, workflow designs, and system configurations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and vendors to develop effective technology solutions.
System Implementation, Optimization & Support
- Serve as the lead analyst for the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of the organization's new EHR and related clinical technologies.
- Configure, test, and enhance system functionality to support clinical documentation, care coordination, reporting, and operational workflows.
- Troubleshoot issues, manage enhancements, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain system integrations, data exchanges, and adherence to change management and governance standards.
Data & Reporting
- Analyze clinical and operational data to support quality improvement, outcomes measurement, and regulatory reporting.
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data extracts to support organizational needs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, data integrity, and security standards.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Serve as the primary liaison between clinical teams, operational leadership, IT, vendors, and implementation partners.
- Facilitate meetings and working sessions to support project objectives and organizational priorities.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and participate in relevant vendor and industry forums.
Training & Change Management
- Develop and deliver training related to clinical systems and workflows.
- Maintain training materials and support user adoption of new processes and technologies.
- Support change management activities associated with the EHR implementation and ongoing system enhancements.
- Maintain expertise in applicable systems, healthcare technology, and behavioral health best practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field.
- 5 years of experience supporting an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for a behavioral health provider. Prior experience in EHR implementation project(s) preferred.
- Strong understanding of behavioral health workflows and clinical documentation practices. Direct clinical experience (Community and/or Corrections), optionally with behavioral health clinical license, preferred.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication skills. Proficient in verbal and written communication.
- Proven experience in requirements gathering, process modeling and workflow optimization.
- Proven experience in a production support capacity adhering to SLAs and operating within an IT support/ticketing framework.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to collaborate with business stakeholders, manage difficult situations and engage a team in pursuit of objectives.
- Knowledge and familiarity with project management best practices, ability to inform project scope and estimate related work efforts. Effective organization skills to ensure deadlines are met across multiple concurrent projects, ability to lead initiatives and small projects as well as engage as a project team member.
- Technical expertise in:
- a. Behavioral health EHR vendors/systems
- b. Crystal Reporting, SQL and BI tools
- c. System integrations and interoperability standards (APIs, middleware, file-based data exchanges, HL7/FHIR, HIEs)
- d. Microsoft 365 and collaboration platforms
- e. Artificial Intelligence, including but not limited to applications within behavioral health clinical workflows
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged use of a computer and standard office equipment.
- Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 20 pounds).
- The ability to communicate effectively and visually review information is necessary.
