Pay

$26.78/ - $32.89 / hr, depending on experience and qualifications

Plus $2.00 / hr shift premium for 3rd shift hours

Schedule

3rd Shift (Sunday - Thursday, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.) with Overtime day on Saturday as needed

Job Summary

McKee Foods is seeking a Packaging Mechanic to support production in our packaging area. This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on production line and packaging equipment to ensure maximum uptime and product quality. The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, safety-conscious, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on packaging and conveyor systems, including wrappers, ACLs, closers, palletizers, carton formers, and related equipment
  • Prepare production lines for startup and changeovers, ensuring all mechanical and control components are properly adjusted and tested
  • Monitor equipment during production to detect potential issues and prevent breakdowns
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical failures quickly to minimize downtime and maintain case output
  • Disassemble machinery to replace or repair defective parts and inspect used parts for wear or dimensional changes
  • Operate shop equipment such as drill presses, grinders, and other metalworking tools to fabricate or modify parts as needed
  • Utilize technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to guide repair and maintenance tasks
  • Complete work orders, preventive maintenance requests, and purchase requisitions accurately and on time
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment that aligns with company safety and GMP standards
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal safety, product safety, and consistent attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision

Required Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to McKee Foods' guiding values, policies, goals, and objectives.
  • Clear and consistent communication skills (oral, written, and electronic) with employees at all levels, as well as vendors and contractors.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to GMPs, with an emphasis on food safety and product purity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on mechanical experience.
  • Functional computer proficiency, including use of PC-based systems.
  • Dependable work history with strong safety practices.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, overtime, or alternative shifts as needed.
  • Compliance with Corporate Risk Management requirements for company vehicle operation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with power tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments.
  • High initiative and self-motivation, requiring minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to continuous learning through company training, outside seminars, and technical courses (travel may be required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial mechanical and/or electrical maintenance.
  • Background in packaging maintenance or experience as a packaging operator.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and creating basic sketches or drawings of components.
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting skills.
  • Welding experience.
  • Proficiency with MAXIMO CMMS.
  • Licensed or ability to obtain licenses for LTO and scissor lift operation.
  • Technical school diploma, certification, or equivalent training in a related field.
