Supervisor Payroll


Job Summary

The Supervisor of Payroll is responsible for the leadership, governance, and operational execution of payroll functions to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing and payroll tax reporting across Noridian and affiliated entities. This role oversees payroll staff, establishes strong internal controls, and integrates payroll operations with financial accounting to support audit readiness, regulatory compliance and accurate financial reporting.


Essential Functions
(Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities)

  • Leads, coaches, and develops payroll staff while establishing performance expectations and accountability.
  • Ensures effective workload distribution, cross-training, and business continuity coverage.
  • Fosters a culture of accuracy, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversees end-to-end payroll processing ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reviews payroll calculations, adjustments, and reconciliations.
  • Ensures accurate processing of employee lifecycle transactions.
  • Oversees payroll tax filings and reporting across federal, state and local jurisdictions.
  • Ensures compliance with IRS, DOL, and applicable regulations.
  • Leads resolution of payroll tax issues and audits.
  • Leads system testing, enhancements, and implementations, driving automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Oversees payroll-related accounting activities, including review and approval of payroll journal entries, accruals, and general ledger postings to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensures timely completion of payroll account reconciliations, including wages payable, payroll tax liabilities, benefit accruals, and other payroll-related balances.
  • Partners with General Ledger and Finance teams to support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Reviews and analyzes payroll-related financial data to identify variances, trends, and discrepancies requiring investigation or correction.
  • Ensures alignment between payroll systems, tax reporting, and the general ledger through reconciliation and validation processes.
  • Supports accurate financial reporting by ensuring payroll transactions are recorded in accordance with accounting policies and reporting requirements.
  • Leads resolution of payroll-to-financial discrepancies, including coordination with Accounting, HR, and external vendors.
  • Supports internal and external financial audits by providing payroll-related accounting documentation, reconciliations, and explanations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
  • Five (5) years of payroll experience
  • Two (2) years leadership experience
  • Knowledge of Payroll and Tax Regulations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to reconcile complex data sets
  • Intermediate research, analytical, and problemsolving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external parties


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Experience with payroll and financial systems (e.g., ADP, Deltek Costpoint)
  • Multi-State Payroll Experience

Below is the salary range for potential new hires.

Salary Range: The pay range for this position is $68,928.86 - $113,369.53 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
