Location: Winston-Salem, NC

Pay Rate: $25.00 - $48.00 per hour | 1st, 2nd, + 3rd Shifts Available

Toolmaker Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of a formal Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program or an approved in-house training program is required
  • Technical school, machining, or manufacturing coursework preferred
  • Additional training in precision machining, CNC machining, tooling, or mold making is preferred



Toolmaker Experience Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience in tool and die making, mold making, or precision machining required
  • Previous experience working in a die and mold shop environment is required
  • Experience maintaining, repairing, modifying, and rebuilding production tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools
  • Ability to perform precision grinding operations, including surface grinding of carbide and tool steel to tight tolerances (0.0001 inches)
  • Experience operating manual surface grinders is required
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling methods, and fabrication techniques
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot tooling issues and perform corrective repairs
  • Experience fitting, assembling, testing, and adjusting dies and tooling components
  • Ability to use trade-specific hand tools and machining equipment safely and accurately
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret verbal, written, and sample-based instructions
  • Experience documenting maintenance activities, repairs, and tooling changes
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to precision, quality, and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams



Toolmaker Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand for extended periods while performing machining and tool maintenance activities
  • Ability to perform precise hand work requiring strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle tools, dies, fixtures, and machine components as required
  • Ability to safely operate machining equipment, grinders, hand tools, and precision measurement equipment
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, metalworking processes, noise, and materials
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks requiring accuracy, focus, and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area while following all safety procedures


Toolmaker Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, rebuild, modify, and fabricate replacement parts for production tooling
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled tool maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Inspect tools, dies, components, and finished work to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Determine machining requirements and complete work using appropriate tooling and equipment
  • Operate manual surface grinders and other machining equipment to produce precision components
  • Grind carbide and tool steel components to required tolerances and specifications
  • Perform hand fitting, assembly, and finishing operations for jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies
  • Set up, test, and adjust dies to ensure proper operation and product quality
  • Diagnose tooling issues and make necessary corrections or modifications
  • Update shop drawings and documentation with tooling changes and revisions
  • Record completed work, labor hours, repairs, and maintenance activities accurately
  • Maintain tool maintenance records and documentation for cost tracking and process improvement
  • Clean and maintain assigned equipment, tools, and work areas
  • Collaborate with engineering and product design teams to provide input on manufacturability and tooling capabilities
  • Support production operations with tooling troubleshooting and technical assistance
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling performance and manufacturing processes
  • Follow all safety, quality, and company procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
