SUMMARY
The Psychologist is responsible for conducting behavioral health evaluations, biopsychosocial assessments, psychological testing, and related mental health examinations for veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, and other designated claimant populations within the clinic setting. This role performs mental health evaluations, cognitive and psychological assessments, diagnostic review activities, and detailed evaluative reporting in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), Department of Disability and Medical Assessment (DMA), and organizational guidelines. The Psychologist supports clinical quality, claimant care standards, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance through accurate, objective, and timely behavioral health evaluations and documentation. The Psychologist also serves as a clinical resource by maintaining high ethical standards, protecting claimant confidentiality, and supporting quality improvement initiatives related to behavioral health services. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial examinations and behavioral health evaluations of claimants.
- Perform psychological, developmental, and cognitive-deficit assessments, including test administration, scoring, interpretation, and documentation.
- Review medical, behavioral health, and service records to support evaluation processes and clinical documentation.
- Prepare intake summaries, case summaries, and detailed evaluative reports in accordance with organizational, legal, and regulatory standards.
- Utilize clinical assessment findings, behavioral observations, psychological testing results, and professional judgment to formulate objective clinical impressions and opinions when appropriate within examination guidelines.
- Maintain accurate, timely, legible, and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with state, federal, and organizational standards.
- Conduct claimant interviews and behavioral observations while demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and sensitivity to claimant rights and experiences.
- Provide education and guidance to claimants and families regarding evaluation processes, behavioral health concerns, and adherence to prescribed therapeutic or medication regimens when appropriate within scope of practice.
- Maintain familiarity with VBA worksheets, DMA guidelines, VHA/VBA examination standards, APA ethical standards, and applicable behavioral health regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, utilization review activities, chart reviews, and operational workflow enhancements.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA, claimant privacy requirements, risk management standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Utilize community resources, public agencies, and organizational support systems appropriately when relevant to claimant needs and examination processes.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to remain current with behavioral health practices, psychological testing standards, and clinical technologies.
- Collaborate effectively with operational leadership, providers, Medical Assistants, and support staff to ensure smooth clinic operations and claimant flow.
- Adjust effectively to fluctuating claimant volumes, operational demands, and scheduling changes while maintaining quality, timeliness, and professionalism.
- Perform additional clinical or operational duties as assigned based on business needs.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and/or Experience
- Doctorate (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related behavioral health field required.
- Graduate of an APA-accredited program required.
- Active and unrestricted license to practice psychology in the applicable state required.
- Thorough knowledge of state regulations, APA standards, ethics, claimant rights, confidentiality requirements, and behavioral health best practices required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related behavioral health or psychological assessment experience preferred.
- Experience with psychological testing, behavioral health evaluations, and computerized charting systems preferred.
- Experience working in Compensation & Pension (C&P), military health, occupational health, or evaluation-based settings preferred.
- Strong behavioral health assessment, psychological testing, and diagnostic evaluation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong clinical documentation and report-writing skills.
- Knowledge of psychological testing techniques, administration, scoring, and interpretation.
- Strong understanding of APA ethical standards, claimant rights, confidentiality, and behavioral health regulations.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, objectivity, and claimant-centered communication during evaluations.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive behavioral health information.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be proficient in multiple software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet.
- Must be a qualified typist with a minimum of 35 W.P.M.

- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

- Ability to write clearly and informatively to all required audiences and edit own work for appropriate spelling and grammar.
- Ability to respond appropriately and professionally to all inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, upper management, and/or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information one-on-one, in small groups, and/or to clients or vendors of the company.
