Key responsibilities may include:

  • Manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of the merchandise Transportation Service Plan (TSP)
  • Support tactical planning of merchandise traffic through terminals with focus on increasing velocity by improving performance in each of the focus metrics
  • Learn and use Service Design's optimization models to continuously improveTSP quality as traffic levels and operating conditions evolve
  • Coordinate and communicate TSP changes to Transportation and Marketing leaders and other stakeholders
  • Assist field and NOC leaders with planned and unplanned temporary TSP changes such as those caused by holiday observances, yard and line maintenance, and severe weather
  • Monitor TSP adherence including train schedule adherence, terminal dwell and connection performance, blocking compliance, and other measures, and address instances of repeated non-adherence with field and NOC leaders
  • Serve as liaison with field leaders for gathering & distribution planning
  • Assist in responding to merchandise service issues raised by customers
  • This position includes nights, weekend, and holiday responsibilities with other members of the Merchandise Service Design Team.
  • Moderate travel required.

Required:

  • Knowledge of the BNSF network including physical / geographic layout of the railroad, traffic flow patterns, and terminal operations and workload
  • Familiarity with operations planning techniques
  • Familiarity with measures of merchandise network performance and TSP adherence
  • Proficiency in TSS, TSS Xpress, and the Microsoft Office suite, with ability to quickly learn new computing applications
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to gain consensus and influence all levels of management
  • Self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Also desirable:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Transportation, or equivalent experience
  • Supervisory experience in a merchandise terminal
  • Experience in NOC supervisory planning roles such as Chief Dispatcher or MCO
  • Advance analytical skills such as ability to extract and manipulate data from BNSF databases using SAS or SQL
