Unifi seeks an experienced employment attorney to join its growing legal team and help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. In this role, you will provide daily legal guidance to company operators and corporate teams, manage litigation and outside counsel, train employees, and support the legal team on a variety of employment matters. This position will also collaborate frequently with HR and leadership teams on strategic planning. The Unifi Legal Department provides shared legal services to several affiliated entities of its parent company.

This position is assigned to work in Atlanta, Georgia, with a hybrid in-office and at-home arrangement. Occasional travel will be required (<10% travel).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop programs, policies, and practices to ensure that the Company complies with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements throughout its operations.

  • Advise managers and departments on HR and employment legal issues, including proactive measures to reduce legal exposure.

  • Manage and resolve employment-related disputes, governmental agency actions, and routine employment litigation matters.

  • Respond to demand letters and state and federal agency charges.

  • Manage Department of Labor and similar government entity audits.

  • Supervise and conduct legal research for pending employment legal matters.

  • Independently manage outside counsel on a portion of the Company's employment litigation caseload, including class action lawsuits, in line with budget and outside counsel guidelines.

  • Manage and track budgets.

  • Train HR professionals and leaders on best practices for investigations, accommodations, privilege, discrimination, wage and hour, pay equity, recruiting, terminations, and other employment-law-related topics.

  • Provide counsel and guidance to HR and Operations regarding complex employee relations issues, including workplace investigations, wage and hour compliance, accommodation and leave requests, termination decisions, and numerous other employment-related matters.

  • Coordinate nationwide employment-law-related initiatives and serve as the business's subject-matter expert on those topics.

  • Track and interpret relevant laws, regulations, and ordinances, and advise and educate key personnel, including senior management, on important changes.

  • Draft, review, revise, update, maintain, and disseminate policies and procedures necessary to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

  • Conduct or direct internal investigations to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations.

  • Work closely with and support senior management in the implementation of compliance-related programs.

  • Ensure that any corrective action plans, as well as project and operational milestones and goals, are achieved within a timely fashion and established budgets.

  • Assume other duties within the Legal Department, including special projects, as assigned or needed.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

  • Active license to practice law and in good standing with at least one state bar.

  • Minimum of 6 years of employment law experience in private practice, in-house, or a combination of the two.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of federal employment law, including wage-and-hour counseling and litigation experience.

  • Class action and wage-and-hour counseling or litigation experience required.

  • International employment law experience a plus.

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with California employment laws.

  • Ability to work at a fast pace while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across the business.

  • Business-minded and strategic, with the ability to provide practical legal advice that supports operational goals while managing legal risk.
