Overview

The Data Architect leads the design, modernization, governance, and optimization of enterprise data platforms across VNS Health. The role is responsible for advancing data architecture capabilities that support healthcare payer and provider operations, with a focus on cloud data platform modernization, healthcare data interoperability, analytics enablement, artificial intelligence-ready data foundations, and vendor data integration.The Data Architect partners with business leaders, enterprise architects, application teams, analytics teams, data engineering teams, vendors, security, compliance, and operational stakeholders to ensure scalable, secure, compliant, and future-ready data solutions aligned with organizational strategy. The role provides architectural leadership across cloud data platforms, healthcare interoperability standards, data governance, application programming interfaces, data integration, analytics platforms, and modern cloud-native data ecosystems. Working under general direction, the Data Architect serves as a technical leader and trusted advisor across the organization.

What You Will Do:

  • Data Architecture Strategy
  • Develops and maintains enterprise data architecture standards, principles, patterns, and roadmaps in alignment with enterprise architecture direction and organizational priorities.
  • Develops target-state data architectures that support digital transformation, cloud modernization, interoperability, analytics, reporting, artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives, and operational efficiency.
  • Designs scalable enterprise data models across clinical, claims, care management, member, provider, financial, operational, and engagement domains.
  • Aligns data platform investments with business strategy, regulatory requirements, enterprise scalability objectives, and data governance goals.
  • Supports data architecture governance processes and participates in architecture review activities.
  • Partners with enterprise architects, solution architects, application owners, and analytics leaders to support consistent data architecture practices across the organization.
  • Cloud Data Platform Modernization
  • Leads modernization of enterprise data platforms utilizing AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, SQL Server, and cloud-native healthcare platforms.
  • Designs scalable cloud and hybrid-cloud data architectures supporting enterprise reporting, analytics, operational data stores, data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts.
  • Defines enterprise data platform patterns for data ingestion, transformation, modeling, pipelines, data quality, metadata management, master data management, data lineage, data security, and data governance.
  • Guides migration of legacy healthcare data platforms to modern cloud-based architectures.
  • Partners with data engineering teams to define reusable and scalable data pipeline frameworks.
  • Optimizes data architectures for performance, cost, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Vendor Data Platform & Application Data Management
  • Leads data architecture oversight for enterprise vendor platforms and software-as-a-service ecosystems.
  • Evaluates, rationalizes, and optimizes data flows across clinical, operational, financial, customer relationship management, care management, claims, and analytics systems.
  • Partners with business, procurement, application, and vendor teams on product evaluations, data capability assessments, and technology decisions.
  • Defines vendor data exchange, migration, retention, reporting, and integration strategies.
  • Ensures vendor solutions align with enterprise data governance, security, interoperability, scalability, and analytics requirements.
  • Assesses vendor platforms for data accessibility, application programming interface maturity, data model transparency, reporting capabilities, and integration readiness.
  • Data Integration & Interoperability
  • Defines data integration approaches across payer, provider, vendor, and enterprise platforms.
  • Supports implementation of interoperability solutions utilizing healthcare standards including HL7, FHIR, and X12/EDI.
  • Partners with application, integration, and data engineering teams to support reliable and scalable data exchange.
  • Supports reusable integration patterns and data architecture standards across enterprise systems. * AI Data Enablement
  • Contributes to and collaborates on artificial intelligence strategy and architecture initiatives across healthcare payer and provider domains.
  • Designs scalable artificial intelligence and machine learning-enabled data platforms utilizing AWS artificial intelligence and machine learning services, Snowflake Cortex, Salesforce Einstein, and cloud-native artificial intelligence technologies.
  • Supports development of data foundations required for artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and data-driven decision making.
  • Leadership & Collaboration
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to leadership, business stakeholders, and technology teams on data architecture topics.
  • Collaborates with solution architects, engineers, and technical leads to support architecture alignment and solution delivery.
  • Facilitates cross-functional architecture planning and decision-making activities.
  • Supports development and maintenance of data architecture standards, patterns, and governance artifacts.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Licenses and Certifications:
    Snowflake SnowPro Certification preferredAWS Certified Solution Architect - Professional Certification preferredAWS Certified Data Analytics or AWS Certified Data Engineer Certification preferred

    Education:
    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent experience requiredMaster's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field preferred

    Work Experience:
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in data architecture, enterprise data platforms, data engineering, solution architecture, or technology leadership roles required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting healthcare payer and/or provider organizations required
  • Deep expertise with AWS cloud data services, Snowflake, Databricks, enterprise data integration, data warehousing, data lakes and lakehouse architectures, and software-as-a-service data architectures required
  • Experience with enterprise data modeling and enterprise data standards, including Data Vault modeling methodologies required
  • Understanding of healthcare business domains including claims, care management, clinical operations, provider management, member engagement, population health, quality measures, utilization management, and value-based care required
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, and X12/EDI required
  • Experience working with AWS data services including AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, Amazon S3, AWS Lake Formation, Amazon Athena, Amazon EMR, AWS Lambda, AWS SageMaker, or Amazon Bedrock preferred
  • Experience with Snowflake capabilities including Snowpipe, Streams and Tasks, Snowpark, Dynamic Tables, Data Sharing, and Snowflake Cortex AI preferred


Pay Range

USD $137,800.00 - USD $183,800.00 /Yr.
