Responsible for the general operation of the UCSF Communication Center, which consists of the following: process telephone calls for 911 police, fire medical and non-emergency services; input information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; input data into the various Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems and interpret the printout information once it is obtained; operate a multi-channel radio system under emergency as well as non-emergency circumstances, adhering to FCC rules and regulations in the course of its operation and ability to audibly monitor radio traffic; operate a hand-held two-way radio for communications; maintain various logs; process various alarms; and perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Valid California Driver's License High School diploma or GED equivalent. Must be able to work shifts on a rotational basis (days, swings, and midnights) and have the ability to work on-call assignments and/or overtime and holidays when needed. Effective written and verbal communications. Ability to pass medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background investigation in compliance with California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards. Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures, including the operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems within 1 year of appointment. Passing Score on the POST Entry-level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery, before attending the academy. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Information Technology, Personal Computers, and related Software Applications. Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures, including the operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems. Knowledge of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Systems.
