We are in search of a seasoned Engineering Manager (Gas GIS Technologies) with profound experience in enterprise GIS platforms and exceptional knowledge of gas distribution and transmission network data.

Key Accountabilities
  • Leading and mentoring a team of software and systems engineers focused on developing, maintaining, and enhancing the Gas GIS platforms and solutions that support National Grid's gas distribution and transmission networks.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, geospatial analysts, and stakeholders, to drive the successful delivery of geospatial projects.
  • Overseeing the technical strategy and implementation of GIS solutions, ensuring best practices in geospatial data management and software development.
  • Ensuring smooth integration and customization of Gas GIS technologies, particularly Esri ArcGIS Enterprise and the ArcGIS Utility Network, including integrations with enterprise systems such as SAP and work management platforms.
  • Managing the development and optimization of cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to support Gas GIS applications and services.
  • Owning the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for Gas GIS applications - from requirements and design through development, testing, deployment, and support - within an Agile delivery model.
  • Championing the adoption of AI capabilities across the team, including AI-assisted development tools, machine learning for data quality and anomaly detection, and GeoAI applied to gas network data.
  • Promoting innovation and continuous improvement within the team, with a focus on scaling geospatial solutions to meet enterprise needs.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering leadership role, with a focus on GIS technologies, ideally within the gas or utility sector.
  • Expertise in geospatial software, with hands-on experience in Esri ArcGIS Enterprise and the ArcGIS Utility Network.
  • Strong understanding of GIS data formats, spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server), ETL tools such as FME and ADF, and integration with enterprise systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo, Salesforce, etc).
  • Experience in managing cloud-based infrastructures and DevOps practices (e.g., Azure) to support GIS platforms.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and infrastructure automation (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, Terraform).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and grow technical teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset when it comes to managing geospatial data and systems.
  • Knowledge of scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including Agile/Scrum delivery, requirements management, code review, testing, and release management.
  • Experience applying AI in an engineering context, such as AI-assisted development tools, machine learning for data quality or anomaly detection, or GeoAI/spatial analytics.

Waltham: $148k - $174k a year

Brooklyn: $159k - $186k a year
