Job Summary

Position Summary

Temporary Employment Services (TES) is recruiting for Materials Management/Warehouse support roles at UC Davis Health. This position supports the receipt, handling, storage, and distribution of medical supplies critical to patient care. Incumbents will work in a fast-paced hospital warehouse environment ensuring accurate inventory control, safe material handling, and timely delivery of supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

30% - Dock Receiving & Bulk Medical Supply Intake

  • Safely unload and receive high-volume medical supply shipments from carriers
  • Verify package counts and inspects for visible damage
  • Match packing slips and bills of lading to purchase orders
  • Report damage, shortages, duplicate shipments, and discrepancies within required timelines
  • Apply receiving labels and route shipments to appropriate staging areas

35% - Package Handling, Sorting & Pallet Stacking

  • Load, unload, and move materials manually or using equipment
  • Sort packages by department, category, or storage location
  • Palletize materials following weight and stability guidelines
  • Follow FIFO (first-in, first-out) practices to prevent expired product use
  • Maintain clean, labeled, and organized staging zones
  • Report damaged or mislabeled items to supervisor

35% - Picking, Staging & General Warehouse Organization

  • Pick and assemble supplies using lists or verbal instructions
  • Support clinical areas including operating rooms, ICUs, and emergency departments
  • Stage items and assist with stocking storage locations
  • Monitor temperature-controlled storage and report concerns
  • Maintain clean, safe aisles and storage areas
  • Participate in cycle counts and inventory movement between locations

Minimum Qualifications

* Ability to read, write, and perform basic math

* Ability to follow oral and written instructions

* Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting to 50 lbs. and standing for extended periods

* One year of warehouse, stores, or related experience (or equivalent education/experience)

* Flexibility to work varying schedules based on operational needs

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in hospital or healthcare supply chain environments

* Knowledge of sterile supply handling and clinical inventory processes

* Experience with cold-chain storage and FIFO inventory rotation

* Forklift certification or experience using material-handling equipment

* Familiarity with inventory systems (e.g., Infor Lawson), barcode scanning, and PAR/LUM replenishment systems

Physical Demands and Work Environment

* Perform physically demanding tasks including frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials up to 50 lbs.

* Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for extended periods throughout the workday

* Use hands and arms to handle, grasp, and manipulate packages, tools, and equipment

* Safely operate manual and powered material-handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, forklifts, carts)

* Maintain stamina and mobility to work efficiently in a fast-paced warehouse and hospital environment

Work Environment:

* Work is performed primarily in a warehouse and hospital supply environment at UC Davis Health

* Exposure to varying temperatures, including ambient warehouse conditions and temperature-controlled storage areas (e.g., refrigerated zones for medical supplies)

* Frequent interaction with loading docks, delivery vehicles, and high-volume shipment areas

* Environment may include moderate noise levels from equipment and operational activity

* Required to follow strict safety, infection control, and handling protocols for medical and sterile supplies

* Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

* Work schedule may vary, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs

May be required to:

  • Work for extended periods of time in environment of wide temperature variation.
  • Work flexible/variable schedule (sometimes in excess of scheduled shift) including occasional overtime, evenings/nights, weekends and holidays, usually on short notice to meet operational needs.
  • Work with content interruptions, distractions, and noise.
  • Participate in preventive medical programs, including immunizations and medical surveillance.
  • Appropriately fit and wear personal protective equipment such as TB masks, googles, face shields, gowns, gloves and safety shoes.
  • Participate in medical monitoring programs, including film badges, cholinesterase tests, bioassay tests, tuberculosis test, serum tests, etc.
  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
  • Must be able to move about and work in any area of assignment.
