Security Guards, also known as our Public Safety Ambassadors, protect and guard University property; maintain order among the public and the UCSF community; monitor and control entry to restricted areas; inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards; direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts; and perform other related duties as required.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The hourly range for this position is $22.22 - $29.87. Note: We are offering a $500, new hire sign-on bonus for those who have not been employed with a UC in the last 12 months.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • Valid California Guard Card.
  • Excellent customer service and effective problem-solving skills; ability to fluently speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress in emergencies, and the ability to make sound judgments.
  • Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability.
  • Requires bending, squatting, climbing stairs; pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds; reaching above shoulder level; sitting for extended periods; the ability to stand and walk for extended periods; carrying and lifting 21-30 pounds; gripping and grasping; repetitive movements of upper and lower extremities; and the ability to run short distances.
  • General PC knowledge and demonstrated proficiency using MS Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Current C.P.R. certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • Basic First Aid certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • CPI de-escalation training (within 6 months of hire).
  • AED training (within 6 months of hire).
  • Clery training (within 6 months of hire).
  • The ability to work onsite, full-time, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m., 5 x 8-hour shifts, Sunday-Thursday.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years of experience in the security field.
  • Military experience.
