Registered Nurse - Neurosurgery Ambulatory

The incumbent utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, and address the individualized needs of patients within the Neuroendocrine/Pituitary program at the Parnassus Neurosurgery Clinic. This role supports both surgical and non-surgical patients, providing comprehensive care coordination and patient education across the continuum of care.

Responsibilities include guiding patients through the surgical pathway, including pre-operative preparation and post-operative recovery expectations, as well as ongoing outpatient management for pituitary and neuroendocrine conditions. The RN serves as a key clinical resource for patients and providers, delivering education, triaging clinical concerns, and facilitating timely access to care.

The incumbent provides clinical support to neurosurgery and neuro-endocrine physicians and multidisciplinary team members, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. This individual adheres to the policies and procedures of the Neurosurgery Faculty Practice and maintains compliance with all UCSF Ambulatory Services and Medical Center standards related to infection control, safety, and clinical and administrative practices.

Outpatient ambulatory RN supporting the Neuro-Endocrine practice. Responsibilities include triaging MyChart messages, processing medication refill requests, coordinating laboratory orders, reviewing and triaging test results, and providing clinical support and patient education to ensure timely and effective care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of ambulatory RN experience in endocrinology, neurosurgery, or other complex specialty clinics

  • Demonstrated ability to manage high patient volume and complex care coordination

  • Clinical assessment skills: labs, patient education, and triage of urgent concerns

  • Experience with pre/post operative care, especially for pituitary or neurosurgical changes, hormone replacement therapy

  • Ability to triage patient calls and escalate appropriately

  • Knowledge of endocrine disorders, post op neurosurgery care, pituitary tumor management
  • Familiarity with billing, prior authorizations, and insurance requirements in specialty clinics.
  • This position requires flexibilityto orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years or more of RN clinical experience in-patient neurosurgery

  • Familiarity with billing, prior authorizations, and insurance requirements in specialty clinics.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California

  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
