DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision of the Family Services Director, the Family Services Specialist (FSS) serves as a compassionate advocate for tissue and eye donation by supporting families who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. This role is responsible for conducting telephone-based donation conversations, providing emotional support and education, and facilitating authorization for tissue and eye donation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

The FSS works collaboratively with hospital staff, referral intake teams, recovery staff, funeral homes, medical examiners/coroners, and internal departments to ensure families receive timely, respectful, and compassionate care throughout the donation process.

This position requires advanced communication skills, emotional resilience, crisis intervention abilities, and the capacity to guide families through difficult conversations with empathy, professionalism, and sensitivity.

Lifesharing provides services 24/7 requiring this position to participate in a call schedule rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science plus, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.

  • Experience in the organ and tissue donation field or related health care field.

  • Experience working with families in grief and/or crisis situations.

  • Ability to work variable shifts, variable work locations, holidays, weekends, and overtime when required. Participate in on-call rotation. Able to work with cadavers.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrated self-starter who is accountable and meticulous in details.

  • Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, commitment to high standards, discriminating judgment and high level of ethics.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computers and Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Pastoral Care, or related field
  • Previous relevant medical experience.
  • Bilingual: Spanish and English.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, frequent overtime, and provide on-call coverage to area hospitals.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $87,049 - $87,049 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $41.69 - $41.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
