RTI is seeking a General Operations Specialist for our RTI main campus.

Job Summary:

This is an onsite, hands-on, customer focused position providing a clean and safe campus for RTI staff and visitors. The role is responsible for maintaining the RTI Fleet Maintenance program, campus infrastructure, grounds, pest control and other tasks as may be assigned in supporting the overall campus strategy.


What You'll Do

Essential Duties:

The primary responsibility for this position is to maintain RTI's fleet, infrastructure, grounds and pest control by performing hands on tasks and overseeing the day-to-day operations of contractors and service providers to verify contractual obligations are met.

  • Maintain RTI's Fleet (company vehicles, Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), and golf carts):
  • Asset Management: Purchase and Disposal
  • Assist with Titles, Inspections, Registrations, and Property Tax tasks
  • Maintain Maintenance and Records
  • Perform light maintenance and monthly fleet inspections (batteries, lamps, wipers, etc.)
  • Schedule and drive vehicles to have service performed, overseeing work performed
  • Powered Industrial Truck Trainer (i.e. forklift training)
  • Maintain fleet cleanliness, appearance, and condition (inside and out)
  • Practice safe driving habits and adhere to traffic regulations.

Maintain Campus infrastructure and grounds (180 acres):

  • Infrastructure: Roads, parking lots and decks, sidewalks, stormwater systems and erosion control
  • Landscaping: softscapes, hardscapes, irrigation
  • Pest Management. including in-house removal of deceased animals (birds, squirrels, etc.)
  • Geese Management, including maintaining the RTI Wildlife Permit
  • Campus amenities (apiary, basketball and pickle ball court, etc.)
  • Utilize CMMS effectively and capture 90% of time in the system.
  • Proactively conduct quality audits and inspections of all areas of responsibility.
  • Operate equipment and tools (i.e. pressure washer) to maintain areas of responsibility
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment, tools, and supplies; identify and properly use tools.
  • Support Business Continuity Plan activities for weather events. Inclement weather support sometimes requires weekend, early morning, late-night, and overnight support to ensure campus is safe for staff to return the next business day. Must be available after hours to support inclement weather or campus emergencies
  • Provide support and collaborate within the General Operation team and the broader Facilities teams, as needed.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, applicable codes, regulations, OSHA requirements, and company procedures for all work performed both in-house and contracted externally
  • Reinforce a safe work culture
  • Represent RTI in a professional manner in appearance and demeanor. Be a Leader of self, supporting RTI's Mission and Vision.

What You'll Need

Minimum Required Education & Experience:

High School Diploma (or equivalent) and four years of experience, Associate's degree or higher with 0 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills & Abilities:

Below are skills and abilities required to perform the essential duties of this job.

  • Previous exprience with RTI International systems.
  • Requires a customer service mindset.
  • Experience with fleet maintenance, quality control audits, and contracts (scope of work).
  • Must maintain a valid NC Driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain proper security clearances as noted by contracts.
  • Must have the ability to maintain positive team engagement and morale.
  • Ability to operate a Forklift and Scissor lift. This position trains others on powered industrial trucks. Training will be provided as needed.
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines, relevant regulations, and building codes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a HAZMAT program including recognition of potential hazardous materials.
  • Proficient in time management, organization, and planning.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication. Ability to articulate and write comprehensive routine reports and correspondence.
  • Proficient with technology: Microsoft Software Suite (e.g.: Share point, Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), Video Conferencing software, CMMS programs, laptop, two-way radio, etc.
  • Requires basic analytical skills.
  • Able to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple, and tight deadlines.
  • Able to exercise good judgment in support of RTI's values and guiding principles.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to inquiries, feedback, or complaints from our customers, co-workers, and/or supervisor.
  • Able to handle change rapidly and effectively, utilize resources quickly and effectively, and to deal with multiple requests and personalities.
  • Able to work more than 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require.
  • Ability to work onsite and support campus during adverse weather conditions, (e.g.: hurricanes, storms, snow, and ice). This position is considered an essential employee role.

Physical/Mental Demands:

Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above. Examples include: remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; operating a computer and other office machinery; thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI; frequently moving about inside and travel between offices and laboratories; ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines, ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require, consistent demonstration of mental stability and ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance. Spend hours at a time outside during freezing and warm conditions overseeing inclement weather support and cleanup (not limited to snow, ice, hurricanes, tornados, etc.). While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit, walk, talk, and hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel. The employee may be required to travel domestically occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Physical requirements include frequently climbing stairs and ladders, walking to different buildings in and around campus grounds. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The environment generally is moderate in temperature and noise level.
