About the Role:

The Coordinator of Young Scholars Academy (YSA) is a full-time, 12-month, staff position. The coordinator reports to the Director of Educational Partnerships. The coordinator works collaboratively with the Young Scholars Academy team within the Educational Partnerships unit, as well as school partners and campus offices in providing support for YSA.

The Coordinator of Young Scholars Academy serves on a collaborative team working with other YSA staff, as well as both school and campus stakeholders to support student success. The primary responsibilities of the Coordinator of Young Scholars Academy are as follows:

Advising

  • Facilitate individual and group advising for a caseload of YSA students (juniors and seniors in high school)
  • Provide oversight to scholar schedules to ensure that students are properly registered for relevant courses, ensuring they are on track to meet requirements, such as: Kentucky high school graduation; general education certification; and Associate degree
  • Track scholar progress toward academic goals and provide guidance for postsecondary education planning, scholarship applications, etc.
  • Assist with updates to current and development of new resources to support scholar advising and career exposure
  • Assist with incoming scholar schedule preparation, such as placement testing, pre-registration, and school advising visits

Community and Programming

  • Serve as a critical component of program culture by centering student success and holistic growth
  • Facilitate scholar acclimation to college
  • Support implementation of community programming, such as academic and career exploration events, orientation, YSA for a Day, Senior Celebration, learning communities, senior meetings, and Scholar Summit
  • Participate in recruitment and pipeline programming efforts to encourage and empower students to envision YSA as an academic path
  • Teach UNV 101 courses as needed for new scholars (pending meeting credentialing requirements)

Administrative

  • Communicate with school partners, campus partners, and families as needed to provide scholar progress updates, as well as to refer students to appropriate resources
  • Assist with the collection, tracking, and analysis of scholar data, including current and longitudinal
  • Maintains complete and accurate records, and protects the confidentiality of all records, including, but not limited to, academic, attendance, and overall progress

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will work well in a team environment while also thriving as a self-starter. Strong writing, communication, and multitasking skills are essential. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Canvas, Canva, Slate, and Workday preferred.

Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree
  • (1) year or more of experience with dual credit, school partnerships, academic advising, and/or teaching

Preferred

  • Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, college student personnel, counseling, education, communication, or other related discipline
  • Experience working with high school students, first generation and/or low-income student populations
  • Teaching and/or counseling certification
