Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The purpose of the Global Engagement Office ( GEO) is to coordinate and develop the University's international activities as well as to ensure that the University achieves its international goals as stated in its Strategic Plans. Specific activities include: developing and managing the Study Abroad and Exchanges programs; managing faculty-led programs; advising and retention of international students and visiting scholars; providing support services including immigration and practical training placement for international (F1) and exchange students (J1) and visiting scholars; securing funding for international-related projects for the faculty, departments and university; developing and managing outreach programs to local schools, businesses and community. GEO also serves as the liaison for Interlink Language Programs at UNCG and serves as a central administration unit for support to the UNC University Council for International Programs ( UCIP).
Position Summary
The Business Officer position manages the business, financial, and human resources affairs of the Global Engagement Office. This includes day-to-day budgetary operations (processing, managing, and completing); forecasting unit budgetary needs; assisting the Associate Provost for GEO in operational budget decisions; managing GEO's budgetary workflow; serving as GEO's hiring manager and HR liaison; serving as unit budget authority; and providing guidance to the Associate Provost and GEO functional units (Study Abroad, International Student and Scholar Services, and International Recruitment) regarding budgetary and human resources processes and policy. This position also supports budget management of grants (like Fulbright TEA) and other revenue generating programs (like the international recruitment summer youth academy). This position requires a high level of discretion and independent judgement.
The unit manages 30+ funds that contribute to university wide internationalization efforts. The financial breakdown of the monies managed and expended by the GEO Business Officer annually is about $2.4 million: $0.9 million in state funds and $1.5+ million in external (soft) and endowment funding and external federal grants. The management of each of these funds is time intensive and time sensitive. As such, the position requires an individual of a high ethical standard and discipline. The main purpose of this position is to maintain, oversee, and provide overall support, administration, and coordination of the unit's business and fiscal functions, including addressing the business and financial needs of several program areas (such as, Study Abroad , Kohler program, Fulbright program, Summer Youth Leadership program, and other revenue generating funds).
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
