JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator, Financial Aid & Compliance is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and updating comprehensive policies and procedures to ensure the institution's compliance with regulatory requirements. This position assists with student financial services data management, reporting, and data integrity. The coordinator reviews output and verification of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and supporting documentation, trains staff on verification process, interprets data from automated student information system (SCTBanner), assists with alignment of functions to build an integrated service approach supporting recruitment and retention.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures fiduciary and regulatory compliance in the administration of over $300 million in financial aid disbursements; coordinates activities with auditors; performs periodic internal audits

  • Performs verification review of federal financial aid data and supporting documentation; reviews actions performed by staff; researches and troubleshoots student and staff inquiries; collaborates with international and external partners and responds to U S Department of Education requests

  • Interprets federal and state regulations and guidelines; assists with the development, dissemination and communication of financial aid policies and procedures

  • Reviews and updates award notifications; coordinates special condition applications; problem-solves for aid applicants; advises and counsels students, parents, agencies, and University staff for financial aid issues related to policies, procedures, practices, office services, and document completion; processes applications and documents related to aid programs; processes emergency loans

  • Reviews reports and outlines monitoring and verifying integrity and accuracy of data, identifying risks, and recommending solutions for processing and business practice concerns; documents processes; provides training for staff

  • Responsible for coordinating fraud inquiries and responses as it relates to financial aid with the US Department of Education, outside lender/servicers and internal departments

  • Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of data extraction, report creation, data integrity, and enterprise tools

  • Knowledge of various aspects of scholarship/financial aid and billing programs, policies, procedures, and practices

  • Knowledge of federal, state, university, and private assistance programs and payment options

  • Interpersonal/human relations/communication/listening skills

  • Organizational, planning, writing, and editing skills

  • Counseling and financial aid eligibility assessment skills

  • Demonstrated analytical and cognitive thinking skills

  • Results oriented with ability to manage multiple projects or tasks

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, team-oriented, working relationships

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a demanding environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Three or more years of related experience

Remote/In-person Expectations

This position will require the individual to work primarily in the office, with the flexibility to work some remotely upon completion of the first 3 months of initial onsite training and familiarizing with department work and operations in compliance with the requirements of the SLU Remote Staff Flexible Work Policy.
