Instrumental Music Teacher

Purpose: An instrumental music teacher instructs students on playing instruments, leading both group lessons and large ensembles like band or orchestra. They develop curriculum, teach technical proficiency and music theory, and manage instrument inventories while preparing students for public performances and assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach proper playing techniques, posture, and musicianship across various instrument families (woodwind, brass, string, and percussion)>
• Develop scaffolded, age-appropriate lesson plans tailored to a wide range of skill levels.
• Conduct and direct band and/or orchestra, including selecting appropriate music literature.
• Organize and run student recitals, concerts, and marching shows. Including managing stage logistics and rehearsal schedules.
• Evaluate student progress through playing tests, practice checks, and performances to provide constructive feedback.
• Oversee the schools instrument library, coordinate routine repairs, and teach students proper instrument care.
• Partner with other fine arts faculty and classroom teachers to integrate music with other curricula and school events.
• Attend faculty meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

• NYS Certification as Music Teacher
• Bachelors degree in music education; Masters preferred.
