Job Summary

The Class A Driver is responsible for safely transporting materials to customer locations while maintaining compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards. This role primarily involves operating a tractor-trailer with a 53-foot trailer or a 40-foot flatbed straight truck and delivering construction, utility, and erosion-control materials. In addition to driving responsibilities, the position supports warehouse and yard operations, including loading, unloading, material handling, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, customer-oriented, and comfortable working outdoors in various conditions.

Job Responsibilities



  • Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers and flatbed trucks.
  • Transport and deliver materials according to established schedules and customer requirements.
  • Haul materials such as pipes, valves, fittings, erosion-control products, fabric rolls, grids, mulch, and fertilizers.
  • Verify delivery routes and directions to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Load, unload, and secure materials using proper load restraint methods.
  • Ensure all loads are properly secured and transported within legal weight limits.
  • Obtain customer signatures and maintain accurate delivery documentation.
  • Verify materials are delivered and placed at designated customer locations.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding delivery status and operational updates.
  • Process customer returns and verify returned materials against supporting documentation.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Comply with all DOT regulations, transportation requirements, and company safety procedures.
  • Fuel vehicles as required and report vehicle maintenance concerns, accidents, violations, or defects promptly.
  • Assist with warehouse and pipe yard operations during non-driving hours.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, including cleaning warehouse and outdoor yard areas.
  • Support loading and unloading activities as needed.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service during all customer interactions.
  • Support company goals, initiatives, and operational requirements.
  • Work overtime as needed to support business operations.


Job Requirements



  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Must possess the required state-issued self-certification designation of non-excepted interstate status and provide proof.
  • Minimum of one year of Class A commercial driving experience required.
  • Must have held a CDL for a minimum of one year.
  • Experience operating tractor-trailers with 53-foot trailers and/or flatbed trucks preferred.
  • Ability to safely load, secure, transport, and unload materials.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with customers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to use smartphones and mobile technology for communication and job-related tasks.
  • Comfortable operating vehicles equipped with onboard camera systems.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, loading, unloading, and material handling.
  • Strong attention to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.


Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.


Work Experience



  • Minimum of one year of Class A commercial driving experience required.
  • Experience operating tractor-trailers or flatbed trucks preferred.
  • Experience with load securement and material handling preferred.
  • Warehouse, yard, or distribution experience preferred.
  • Sit-down forklift experience preferred.
  • Moffett forklift certification or experience is a plus.
  • Customer-facing delivery experience preferred.
