Design Engineer - Packaging Mechanical

The primary responsibility of the Design Engineer supports efforts to ensure that the packaging mechanical portion of the project is technically sound, on schedule, and within cost. Develops necessary technical skills, professional presence, and project experiences to be able to work independently on some aspects of projects as assigned. Manages assigned project work as directed by supervisor.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Packaging Systems Knowledge
    • Develops solutions for packaging challenges using experience and industry knowledge
    • Stays current on packaging equipment and trends
    • Assists with planning and coordination of packaging line design, operations, and equipment selection
  • Design
    • Prepares accurate design calculations and specifications
    • Develops line designs, equipment specs, RFQs, and bid packages
    • Supports bid reviews and CAD layout development
    • Applies CAD standards and best practices
  • Equipment & System Integration
    • Reviews vendor proposals and evaluates system options
    • Identifies cost-saving/value improvement opportunities
    • Collaborates on system sequencing and controls
    • Helps plan and execute factory testing (FAT)
  • Construction Support
    • Assists with site testing (SAT), drawing updates, and field issue resolution
    • Reviews shop drawings and supports inspections, reports, and RFIs
  • Project Coordination
    • Supports schedule and budget tracking
    • Coordinates with vendors from design through project closeout
  • Budget Awareness
    • Designs within budget and flags scope changes
  • Professional Development
    • Actively builds technical skills
  • Team Contribution
    • Supports team development and collaboration
  • Travel

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree required. Degree from accredited
    curriculum (NCARB or ABET) preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EiT/FE) Certification preferred

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
