| Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Networking Analyst addresses customer needs and supports the day-to-day operation of the campus network. Working within the Networks department, it involves setting up, installing, and maintaining network hardware and software, including VoIP phones, switches, routers, and access points. The role also entails resolving routine to advanced networking problems, such as issues related to underground infrastructure, hardware, or software. Additionally, this position collaborates with IT staff and other departments to support network-related projects and initiatives.
Working hours will occasionally include early and late hours and planned weekend work, coverage for emergency outages during off hours, and residence hall support. While this role primarily requires on-site presence, there may be opportunities for remote work on occasion. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- Graduation from a two-year technical college with a major in an Information Technology field and five years in the information technology field related to the position's role; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years in the information technology field related to the position's role. Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education.
- Network fundamentals and troubleshooting, with proven ability to resolve network issues across layers 1 and 2, including cable and link testing, UPS installation and troubleshooting, and switch configuration troubleshooting.
- Experience in installation and maintenance of copper and fiber infrastructure

- Experience with Cisco network and telephone technologies
- Familiarity with 802.1x network environment a plus (Cisco ISE a plus)
- Familiarity with Linux operating system
- Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently

- Ability to effectively communicate across diverse audiences
- Experience identifying and recommending technical modifications to prevent future problems

The Department of Network & Communications is part of the Information Technology Services (
ITS) unit of Business Affairs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The Department of Network & Communications is responsible to
ITS and the University for the campus wide enterprise communications systems including the wired and wireless networks, communications servers and the voice network, the campus copper and fiber infrastructure, distance education services, and cable television services. Network & Communications also assists in developing, designing and engineering long-range infrastructure plans for the University and
ITS to support the campus community in its goals and objectives. |
