Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Engagement reports directly to the Assistant Chancellor for Greater Boston Strategic Initiatives/Managing Director of the Charles River Campus and is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of engagement strategies intended to increase awareness, participation, and utilization of the Charles River Campus among Amherst campus constituents, including students, faculty and staff. The position advances the campus strategy to high-impact, career-connected professional development and experiential learning opportunities and enhances the visibility and strategic integration of the Charles River Campus within the broader UMass Amherst ecosystem.

Essential Functions

Plans, executes and leads info sessions, classroom visits, and tabling at career fairs and other university events to promote Charles River Campus pathways and other opportunities for student and faculty engagement with the campus.

Manages the Charles River Campus Student Ambassador Program, including recruitment, selection, training, and deployment of ambassadors throughout the academic year. Responsible for program assessment, improvement, and ongoing professional development of student ambassadors.

Provides supervision, coaching, prioritization, and performance management for the Charles River Campus Communications and Marketing Coordinator.

In collaboration with the Associate Provost for Charles River Academic Programs, the assistant director of the Charles River Campus career center, and directors of existing and planned Charles River Campus comprehensive internship pathways, and identified school and college liaisons to coordinates student cohort recruitment, including development and execution of marketing and communications plans, event-based outreach, inquiry management, and responsive engagement strategies. Tracks participation and recruitment outcomes to inform continuous improvement.

Collaborates with University Relations on brand communications, marketing campaigns and other communications projects to advance the Charles River Campus brand and promote the campus to target audiences while ensuring alignment with university brand standards and strategic priorities.

Builds and sustains effective relationships with academic departments, colleges, administrative units, and student-facing offices to expand awareness and participation in Charles River Campus opportunities.

Identifies, cultivates, and coordinates opportunities for faculty, staff, alumni, and external partners to engage with the Charles River Campus through speaker series, networking panels, guest speaking opportunities, experiential learning initiatives, and other engagement programs.

Assists in the development and coordination of programs, events, and initiatives that strengthen student, faculty, and stakeholder engagement with the Charles River Campus.

Develops, tracks, and reports engagement metrics related to student participation, faculty engagement, recruitment efforts, and campus utilization to support strategic planning and continuous improvement.

Represents the Charles River Campus on cross-functional committees, working groups, and project teams; builds collaborative partnerships and advances initiatives across a highly decentralized, matrixed university environment.

Leads or manages strategic and special projects identified by the Assistant Chancellor for Greater Boston Strategic Initiatives, Managing Director, and/or Chancellor's Office.

Builds effective partnerships throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.

Ensures optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information. Maintains an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

Understands responsibilities with respect to conflicts of interest and behaves in ways consistent both with legal and University policies.

Contributes toward creating a positive and respectful workplace defined by personal and professional competence, integrity, and collaboration. Promotes the University's commitment to a productive workplace environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree.

Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible relevant experience in higher education administration, student engagement, marketing and communications, admissions or enrollment management, experiential learning, career and professional development, employer engagement, and/or program management.

Knowledge of best practices in marketing and communications for college and prospective college students, including digital and social media.

Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and assessing events, programs, and engagement initiatives.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of a complex, decentralized, matrixed organization and build productive relationships among diverse stakeholder groups.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate stakeholders, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent interpersonal, organization and time management skills, including judgment and accuracy.

Successful track record of proven leadership and achievement in implementing change to improve processes.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree.

Experience working in a complex, decentralized organization.

Additional Details

The position is primarily located on the Amherst campus with one day per week on average on the Charles River Campus in Newton.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office or indoor university environment and involves minimal physical exertion.

Work Schedule and Work Arrangement

This role is fully on-site, Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 5 pm, primarily located on the Amherst campus with one day per week on average on the Charles River Campus in Newton, MA.

Salary Information

Pay Grade:PSSAP Grade 28
