Part-time Women's Bowling Coach

Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates all phases of a competitive intercollegiate bowling program. Understands the role of NCAA and Division III athletics in the educational process and recruits quality student-athletes who reflect and represent the quality of Elmhurst University.

Position Status: Exempt

Salary Range: This part-time temporary coaching position will be paid approximately $15,000 as a stipend per academic year, and may be rehired to work during future seasons. The actual stipend offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, length of applicable season including any pre-season and post-season work, required time commitment during the applicable season, and departmental budget.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises and operates all phases of a competitive Division III women's bowling program.
  • Conducts all coaching of the women's bowling program during intercollegiate contests and practices.
  • Connects student-athletes with appropriate campus resources to support their academic success.
  • Coordinates the recruitment of student-athletes for the women's bowling program and contributes to the enrollment and retention efforts of the institution and the athletic department. The head coach will be required to achieve a yearly recruitment goal to maintain the appropriate roster as determined but the Director of Athletics.
  • Works with direct supervisor to understand and know the annual budget structure and subsequently monitors expenditures.
  • Develops the contest schedule and coordinates all team travel arrangements with the support of direct supervisor.
  • Plans, organizes and administers in-season practice sessions.
  • Maintains and updates a sufficient inventory of equipment, selects and orders equipment and other materials needed to successfully run the program, and oversees the issuing and collecting of all equipment, uniforms, supplies, and materials.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Athletic Communications pertaining to all media relations, providing information for the promotional needs of game programs, team media guides, recruiting brochures and other publications.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Elmhurst University, NCAA, and CCIW rules and regulations. Adheres to NCAA compliance regulations.
  • Endorses and supports other sports within the Athletic department.
  • Supports the athletic department and the institution's commitment to inclusion and belonging.
  • Assists with summer duties as necessary to support recruitment of incoming student-athletes, retention of current student-athletes, and attendance at minimal departmental events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience as an assistant or head coach in women's bowling, preferably in a small private college environment.
  • Proven track record of successful recruiting.
  • Well-developed communication skills and ability to discuss college programs and policies with a variety of prospective student audiences.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including extended periods of extreme heat and cold. Work requires frequent districtwide, statewide, and out-of-state travel for recruiting or attending athletic competitions. Required abilities include walking, navigating uneven or slippery surfaces, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods; may require lifting and transporting equipment in excess of 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; and using fine motor skills to operate and maneuver a range of athletic or training equipment.
