Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Professional Development Manager. Reporting to the Senior Director of Professional Development, this role is responsible for supporting the strategic planning, coordination, administration, and execution of the firm's professional development programs, initiatives, and policies. The Professional Development Manager plays a key role in fostering attorney growth and development while helping to advance the firm's talent objectives and commitment to professional excellence.

This position can reside in one of the following offices: Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, or Washington, DC and a hybrid 3 day in-office/2 day remote working schedule is available.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages professional development process, which includes supervising, creating and publishing training calendar and develops related communication materials.

  • Analyzes internal training programs including practice group focused training; makes recommendations on programs and resources where appropriate; researches and customizes new learning solutions including instructor-led, online learning, and on-the-job learning; prepares reports and recommendations for continuation, modification, or termination of programs.

  • Works with the PD Director, Practice Groups and Practice Group Training Partners to ensure consistent and comprehensive practice-based training to all PG associates in each office.

  • Works with PD team to support local office personnel responsible for CLE accreditation of Practice Group and office programs, including submission of applications for accreditation, collection and maintenance of feedback forms, and preparation and distribution of CLE Certificates of Attendance for Practice Group and Office training.

  • Collaborates with Firm Director and PD team on the Mentoring Program.

  • Works with the PD team to provide input into the design and development of the Firm's PD management systems.

  • Assists to monitor the Professional Development budget and expenses.

  • Provides support to Associate Talent Team for firm wide initiatives.

  • Maintains relationships and communicates with consultants and outside vendors as necessary.

  • Develops and maintains expertise for the Firm, including an understanding of innovative attorney training programming and curriculum; and

  • Provides administrative support to the Associate Talent and Pro Bono Partner and Firm and Office Committees as needed.

  • Indirectly supervises third-party vendors and junior team members' work.

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Education and Experience:

This job requires:

  • A Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.

  • Minimum of 5 years of related learning and development experience in a law firm or professional services setting.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and project management abilities.

  • Strong technical proficiency with the MS Suite; familiarity with ViLMS a plus; and a willingness to learn new technologies.

  • Collaborative, consultative management style with the ability to build trust and credibility at all levels.

  • Self-motivated, results-oriented professional with sound judgment and a high degree of initiative.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to adapt to change, manage competing priorities, and navigate challenging situations effectively.

  • Comfortable working in a matrixed environment and collaborating across teams.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret business information, prepare professional correspondence and reports, present information effectively, and make data-driven decisions.

  • Commitment to an integrated and collaborative work culture, including an in-office presence three days per week, as required by firm policy and business needs.

For positions in Boston, MA and Chicago, IL, the salary range for this job posting is: $114,200.00 - $182,750.00.

For positions in Washington DC., the salary range for this job posting is: $119,200.00 - $190,675.00.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and the firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
