Job Description:

Position Summary:

Responsible for creating and managing digital models that enhance the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects. Create and maintain Building Information Models (BIM) to support project planning and execution, ensuring accuracy and constructability. Lead effective communication and collaboration among project stakeholders, including architects, engineers, and construction teams, using VDC technologies. Perform simulations to anticipate potential issues, optimize construction processes, and improve project outcomes. Analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions to enhance project outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, and manage BIM models using industry-standard tools including Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks throughout all project phases.
  • Proactively identify constructability issues within self-performed scopes through model review and coordination, issuing RFIs and coordinating resolutions with the design team.
  • Process and integrate field survey data and point clouds into the BIM environment to reflect actual installed conditions and verify model-to-field accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary VDC resource supporting all self-performed scopes of work, providing model-based coordination, detailed layout data, and visualization tools directly to field crews.
  • Create and maintain site logistics models and drawings for field verification, sequencing reviews, and safety planning in coordination with the project superintendent.
  • Maintain model integrity by managing version control and incorporating design team changes and document issuances in a timely manner.
  • Provide model management support through design team changes, RFI responses, and document issuances.
  • Develop and maintain trade-specific models for self-performed work including concrete, structural steel, earthwork, carpentry & drywall to support accurate field execution.
  • Create models from captured laser-scanned site point clouds and integrate point cloud data into the project BIM environment.
  • Review 3D models for accuracy against contract documents and perform internal QA/QC checks for constructability.
  • Ensure all project models conform to company VDC standards and BIM execution plan requirements.
  • Generate construction-ready deliverables from BIM models - including shop drawings, erection drawings, and coordination drawings - tailored specifically to self-perform field operations.
  • Work directly with superintendents and forepersons to translate model data into actionable field information and detailed layout packages.
  • Lead quantity take-offs and material tracking from BIM models to assist project management and estimating teams for self-performed work.
  • Utilize survey data collected by the project survey team - using GPS control points and 3D laser scans - as the basis for producing accurate as-built documentation.
  • Produce as-built BIM models and drawings by reconciling design models against verified field survey data, documenting deviations and updating models accordingly.
  • Generate layout files and stakeout data from BIM models for use by the survey team, including coordinate lists, alignment data, and control geometry compatible with field instruments (total stations, GPS rovers).
  • Collaborate closely with the survey team to establish and maintain project control networks, ensuring model coordinate systems align with field survey control.
  • Develop and manage layout packages for self-performed scopes by extracting precise coordinate and elevation data from BIM models for direct use in the field.
  • Perform QA/QC comparisons between survey-captured as-built data and the design model, producing deviation reports and cloud-to-model analyses as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficient with Autodesk AEC Collection Software Tools (Revit, Civil 3D, Infraworks, AutoCAD, Navisworks Manage, 3DS Max, RecapPRO, Insight, Revit Live, Formit PRO), SketchUp
  • Complete ability to read and interpret construction plans and other technical drawings and documents
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6, Synchro and BIM360 Platform preferred
  • General knowledge of building practices, systems and assemblies
  • Strong technical writing abilities

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or equivalent combinations of training and/or related experience.
  • Commercial construction experience strongly preferred
