Position Summary

Troubleshoot and repair machine tools and equipment in the Machine Department, Tool Room, Shim Department, and other areas. Assignments will include equipment installation and repair, lubrication, minor piping, welding, carpentry, and electrical work.

Responsibilities

  • Repair production machine tools and equipment in the Machine Department, Tool Room, Development, and other areas. Work includes diagnosing problems and performing mechanical, hydraulic, lubrication and minor welding and electrical repairs.
  • Troubleshoot, adjust, and repair machine tools and equipment including turret lathes, milling machines, drill presses, automatic machines, hydroform and numerically controlled machines to close tolerances. Rebuild servo valves, hydraulic pumps, spindles, transmissions, ball screws and pneumatic tools.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections as scheduled on machine tools to reduce possible equipment failures. Service forklift trucks.
  • Install, level, align and set-up equipment to insure proper operation. Use laser instruments with electricians to align equipment.
  • Work from equipment manufacturer's service instructions and repair parts manuals to assist in obtaining proper repair parts. May attend manufacturer's service schools.
  • Operate machine equipment in order to determine operation problems. May be required to machine replacement parts. Install chucks and fixtures and set-up machines.
  • Lubricate equipment as required and perform minor welding and carpentry assignments.
  • Communicate with, train, and assist other workers.
  • Work effectively in a self-directed work team environment. Attend General Stores in Storekeeper's absence.
  • Perform other similar and related duties. Keep workstation clean and orderly.

Qualifications

Competencies Required:

Required:

  • Working knowledge of machine tools including CNC and conventional machines in production and the Tool Room
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot from complex hydraulic schematics
  • Ability to operate metal cutting machines to make and install replacement parts

Work Experience:

Required:

  • 5-6 years' relevant experience

Education:

Required:

  • High School Diploma

Preferred:

  • Trade School or Manufacturer courses
