DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role helps operate and maintain the boiler plant while supervising an inmate work crew to support safe and efficient facility operations. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:
- Plant Operation: Maintain boilers, chillers, and cooling towers during routine and emergency conditions
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate and service pumps, fans, and control systems to ensure proper function
- Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry and track chemical inventories and logs
- Crew Supervision: Oversee inmate workers and ensure safety, tool control, and compliance with regulations
- Documentation Tasks: Complete required paperwork, inventories, and communications with supervisors
- General Housekeeping: Clean assigned areas and maintain a safe work environment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
- Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, or 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Sunday - Thursday. Your work hours will be determined at the time of hire.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
