THE POSITION

South Mountain Restoration Center is seeking motivated, reliable candidates to join the Department of Human Services (DHS) as a Custodial Worker 1. In this role, you help provide a clean, sanitary, and attractive environment that supports the comfort and well-being of our residents. Your efforts play an important part in creating spaces where individuals can feel at ease and cared for each day. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays a key part in keeping the buildings and grounds clean, orderly, and safe for residents, visitors, and staff. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • General Cleaning: Carry out daily cleaning tasks such as mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and washing surfaces to maintain sanitary conditions
  • Linen Support: Prepare, organize, and deliver clean linens and clothing while keeping the linen room in proper order
  • Equipment Operation: Operate manual and mechanical cleaning equipment safely and according to established procedures
  • Furniture Handling: Move and lift furniture and equipment as needed to support facility and resident needs
  • Special Cleaning: Clean dining areas, kitchens, bath trolleys, medical equipment, and assistive devices used by residents
  • Outdoor Upkeep: Sweep walkways, remove debris, and apply ice melt during cold weather to keep entrances safe

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hour work week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. You will have rotating on and off-duty days, including weekends and holidays. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness and ability to work in South Mountain, Franklin County, PA
  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, housekeeping, or cleaning person within a nursing home, hospital, correctional facility, fast food setting or restaurant, cafeteria, or school (experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping; scrubbing; dusting; sweeping; or buffing)
  • Work experience collecting and disposing of infectious waste into proper storage areas
  • Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Work experience in the following tasks: operating a floor scrubbing machine, using ladders to clean high areas, proper handling of cleaning chemicals, interacting with patients or residents, snow removal from walkways and entrances, changing light bulbs, cleaning furniture, mopping (wet or dry), and scrubbing
