THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is looking for a Transportation Community Relations Coordinator 2 who enjoys connecting people, ideas, and information. In this role, you will support public understanding of district projects and safety initiatives through clear and effective outreach. You will work closely with media representatives, community groups, and public officials. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to support safe and informed travel across the Commonwealth.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports districtwide communication by serving as a spokesperson and coordinating outreach that informs the public about transportation activities, projects, and safety programs. Serving as the Engineering District 5's Press Officer, you will perform the following duties:
- Media Relations: Serve as district spokesperson and maintain communication with news outlets, public officials, property owners, and community groups
- Public Outreach: Plan citizen involvement activities and prepare materials such as advertisements, letters, and publicity programs
- Safety Promotion: Support driver improvement and safety education efforts through coordination with police, schools, and community organizations
- Community Programs: Develop and guide involvement strategies for major transportation projects with significant community impact
- Legislator Contact: Maintain communication with area legislators about transportation activities in their districts
- Staff Supervision: Provide guidance to the Transportation Community Relations Coordinator 1 and monitor related program activities

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Overtime and travel as needed
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period after successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Allentown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS).
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a Transportation Community Relations Coordinator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of public relations experience promoting programs through mass media, or community organizing experience; and a bachelor's degree; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
