DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a HVAC Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanic, you will be supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems that keep DGS facilities safe and comfortable. Work involves helping to maintain proper air flow, temperature control, and equipment performance across various buildings. You will also have the opportunity to work with outside contractors, agency representatives, and other trade staff regarding the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of HVAC systems and equipment. In this role, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Evaluation: Assess comfort issues, inspect equipment, and make adjustments to correct deficiencies
- Preventative Maintenance: Replace filters, clean coils, inspect components, and repair worn or damaged parts
- Testing Skills: Use meters and test instruments to measure performance and identify irregular readings
- System Repairs: Repair HVAC components such as valves, motors, dampers, and fans
- Installation Work: Install basic HVAC units including split systems, window units, and ventilation equipment
- Refrigerant Handling: Prepare equipment for disposal and recover refrigerants according to EPA regulations
Note: This position is considered essential. You will be required to report in-office during emergencies and office closings.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, units, and equipment; or
- Completion of a three-year Vo-Tech training program in refrigeration, HVAC, or building automation and six months experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, related digitally controlled equipment, or BA systems; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration equipment.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires an EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.
- This position requires an active motor vehicle license.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Associates Degree in HVAC, Refrigeration, Building Automation Systems, or closely related field
- Experience utilizing Building Automation Systems for the purposes of monitoring and adjusting HVAC equipment performance
- Experience troubleshooting chillers, boilers, or automation systems
- Experience using a computerized maintenance management system, or work order system
- Experience using basic computer and mobile device skills for communication purposes.
