Post Doctoral Research Associate
Department:
Physics
Reports To:
Professor, Physics
Position Type:
Staff
Position Summary:
This position is
open for the experimental project in THz spectroscopy, Ellipsometery, Vortex
Beam Spectroscopy, Soft X-ray spectroscopy, and Neutrons. The successful
Candidate is expected to move within driving distance from Brookhaven National
Lab, Upton on Long Island of NY, USA. Our Candidates are expected to
demonstrate a strong interest in Optics of Quantum Materials and Magnetic
compounds. Our mission is to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. We do so
by encouraging People of all backgrounds to apply.
Essential Functions:
Information about the Project
- Project
Location: MET beamline at NSLS-II, Brookhaven National Lab.
- Description
of the instrument being used: Mueller matrix magneto-ellipsometer and
transmission/reflection polarimeter.
- Our Team is performing experiments at the multi-user
facility with fully automatic data collection using the most advanced synchrotron
light source, NSLS-II, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).
- We use Mueller
matrix spectroscopic ellipsometry and transmission/reflection polarimetry in
high magnetic fields up to 7 T.
- Properties of Quantum Materials are in the focus of our research.
- The setup consists of several major components, including an
OXFORD optical magnet that is coupled to the side-load sample stage for
cooling, alignment, and sample exchange between measurements.
- We have a fully automatic LabView-based control of the instrument and advanced MATLAB-based
software for data modelling and analysis.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Research experience in Optics Labs or at the Synchrotron or Neutron Labs.
- Knowledge of magnetic fields, cryo-temperatures, high vacuum, FT-IR or THz spectroscopy, polarimetry or ellipsometry.
- Knowledge of Matlab and/or Python for data analysis, and LV for
measurement control.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
