What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Digital Diagnostic Technical Program Manager to join our North America Service Operations team. This role will design, launch, and scale a digital diagnostic program that triages inbound service visits before a technician ever touches the vehicle - reducing unnecessary appointments, accelerating repair times, and continuously sharpening Tesla's diagnostic automation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on operator who pairs deep familiarity with vehicle diagnostic systems with the ability to lead technicians, partner closely with Service Engineering, and build process and tooling that field teams trust. This role is based in Palo Alto, CA, for proximity to Service Engineering and partner teams.
What You'll Do
- Stand up an end-to-end digital diagnostic workflow inside Tesla's service center workflow tools, including the quality checks and guard rails that field service trusts
- Lead a team of digital-diagnostic technicians - set the quality bar, build the playbook, ramp the team, and coach toward consistent, high-quality output
- Partner with Service Engineering and software teams to feed structured diagnostic findings back into Tesla's diagnostic automation, continuously improving its accuracy and coverage
- Build durable relationships with Service Engineering, Software, and field Service leadership to align priorities and unblock cross-functional work
- Translate noisy vehicle telemetry and fault data into clear, actionable signals for technicians, engineers, and leadership
- Define and track the metrics that prove the program is working - first-time-fix rate, diagnostic time, visit avoidance, and downstream service KPIs
- Identify, design, and pilot improvements to diagnostic processes; measure results and iterate
- Present clearly and concisely to senior leadership; answer hard data questions on the spot
What You'll Bring
- 7+ years of program or technical program management experience, ideally in automotive, manufacturing, or service-oriented industries
- Demonstrated experience standing up a new process or program from zero inside a complex, mature organization
- Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems, fault codes, and vehicle architecture, or comparable telemetry-heavy domain experience with the ability to ramp quickly
- Direct experience leading a technical or operations team (technicians, analysts, or shop-floor leads); able to ramp, coach, and manage performance
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to find signal in noisy datasets; proficiency with SQL or similar data tools
- Track record of cross-functional influence - earning trust from engineering, operations, and field teams without formal authority
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, including comfort presenting to senior leadership
- Open to feedback, quick to learn new concepts, and humble enough to seek clarification when needed
- Willingness to travel up to 25% to service centers and partner sites
