Engineer I (SSO Division - Location: Irvine, CA)

Position Summary

The Engineer I is responsible for providing professional customer support and quality engineering support through the effective management of the Salesforce Queue, timely dissemination and response to customer email communications, and resolution of customer requests, quality concerns, and nonconformance issues. This position supports the development, execution, and continuous improvement of customer support and quality processes to enhance service efficiency, responsiveness, compliance, and overall customer satisfaction.

The role works closely with cross-functional teams to address technical, service, and quality-related inquiries; ensure accurate case and quality documentation; complete assigned internal and external audit activities; manage customer quality concerns and nonconformance follow-up; and perform a broad range of customer support and quality engineering functions in alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and company standards. The Engineer I also supports the ongoing review and improvement of processes and procedures to promote operational effectiveness, product quality, and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions:

  • In a team environment, manages assigned customer support and quality engineering activities by reviewing customer requests, analyzing reported issues, and responding through established service channels, including the Salesforce Queue and email communications.
  • Provides routine customer support and quality engineering assistance by applying basic engineering knowledge, product understanding, quality principles, and established business procedures to address customer inquiries, technical questions, service-related concerns, and quality issues.
  • Monitors, prioritizes, and maintains the Salesforce Queue to ensure timely case assignment, response, follow-up, escalation, and closure in accordance with departmental service expectations, quality requirements, and customer support standards.
  • Disseminates customer-related email communications accurately and professionally, ensuring requests, concerns, and quality-related issues are directed to the appropriate individuals or functional teams and that required follow-up actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Investigates customer concerns, support issues, and nonconformance matters by gathering relevant information, reviewing specifications, product data, historical case details, quality records, and internal resources to determine appropriate responses, corrective actions, or recommended resolutions.
  • Manages customer quality concerns and nonconformance activities by documenting issues, coordinating internal review and disposition, supporting root cause investigation, tracking corrective actions, and ensuring timely communication with affected stakeholders.
  • Completes assigned internal and external audit activities by supporting audit preparation, gathering required documentation, participating in audit execution, responding to findings as assigned, and assisting with follow-up actions to maintain compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Completes defined customer support and quality engineering tasks such as preparing case documentation, drafting technical and quality-related responses, updating customer and quality records, coordinating issue resolution, and maintaining accurate files, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Supports the design, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of customer support and quality processes by identifying workflow gaps, evaluating procedures, recommending practical improvements, and contributing to standard work, process documentation, and service-related policies.
  • Conducts routine review of processes and procedures to support consistency, compliance, efficiency, and continuous improvement in customer support and quality-related operations.
  • Works cross-functionally with engineering, customer service, sales, quality, operations, manufacturing, and other internal teams to resolve customer requests, address quality concerns, communicate technical information, and support effective issue resolution.
  • Applies established engineering practices, quality standards, customer service expectations, and documentation methods to ensure consistency, accuracy, compliance, and effectiveness in all assigned activities.
  • Develops reports, summaries, audit-related documentation, and support records in response to customer inquiries, internal information requests, quality concerns, nonconformance activities, and routine performance tracking requirements.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives by supporting lean practices, corrective and preventive actions, process standardization, and efficiency improvements that enhance response time, service quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in training, reviewing technical, quality, and business materials, and remaining current on products, systems, processes, audit requirements, and customer support tools.
  • Work assignments may include cross-functional initiatives, audit support, project participation, and collaboration with other teams or individuals as needed to meet departmental and organizational objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Science, Quality, or other related technical discipline required. Equivalent technical education, training, or relevant professional certification may be considered where appropriate.
  • Entry-level professional position intended for candidates with foundational engineering knowledge and limited prior experience. Relevant internship, co-op, or early career experience in customer support, quality, manufacturing, applications engineering, technical service, or related functions is preferred.
  • Fundamental knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, and problem-solving techniques, with the ability to apply technical understanding to customer inquiries, case evaluation, nonconformance review, audit support, process improvement, and issue resolution.
  • Basic understanding of customer support engineering practices, including case management, technical response coordination, issue documentation, follow-up, escalation, and cross-functional support of customer needs.
  • Basic understanding of quality engineering principles and practices, including nonconformance management, root cause investigation, corrective action follow-up, audit support, document control awareness, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Working knowledge of business systems and digital tools used to support customer service and quality operations, such as Salesforce or similar case management/CRM platforms, shared inbox management, quality tracking systems, and standard Microsoft Office applications. Ability to learn company-specific tools, databases, and workflows quickly.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment, including prioritizing Salesforce Queue activities, responding to customer requests, supporting internal and external audit requirements, tracking quality concerns, and ensuring timely follow-up on assigned actions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, professional email correspondence, document technical and quality-related information accurately, and communicate effectively with customers and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills, including the ability to maintain accurate case records, audit documentation, nonconformance files, response timelines, and supporting documentation in accordance with company standards and quality requirements.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze issues by reviewing technical documents, specifications, procedures, customer concerns, product information, and quality records in order to support sound decisions and effective resolution of service and quality matters.
  • Ability to support internal and external audit activities, including preparation of records, participation in assigned audit tasks, response to findings, and follow-up of required actions in alignment with company and customer requirements.
  • Ability to support process improvement initiatives by identifying recurring issues, recommending practical solutions, and contributing to the development, review, and enhancement of customer support and quality processes, procedures, and standard work.
  • General knowledge of products, customers, manufacturing processes, and application requirements relevant to the assigned business or product line, or the ability to develop such knowledge quickly through training and on-the-job experience.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, specifications, reports, procedures, and quality-related requirements and use that information to support customer inquiries, audit activities, nonconformance review, and internal decision-making.
  • Ability to work with general supervision and established procedures, while exercising sound judgment in prioritizing tasks, escalating issues appropriately, and determining next steps within defined guidelines.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across customer service, sales, operations, manufacturing, quality, and engineering functions to support customer satisfaction, compliance, and business objectives.
