GP Recycling is seeking an Accounting Assistant to join our team in Dothan, AL. In this role, you will provide accounting support and customer service across a variety of situations. The ideal candidate brings strong financial discipline, sound judgment, attention to detail, and initiative. You should also be an active learner who is adaptable, collaborative, and energized by a fast-paced environment.

Location: GP offers some location flexibility, but this role requires multiple in-office days each week to support collaboration and relationship building. We are seeking candidates who live within commuting distance of our Dothan office or are willing to relocate to the area.

The Team: The broader GP Finance & Accounting organization supports more than 125 operating locations across the U.S., along with our corporate headquarters in Atlanta, GA. We are a diverse team united by a passion for accounting excellence, customer service, business partnership, and continuous learning.

The GP Recycling team includes about 30 employees, including four supervisors. Team members are expected to take ownership of the processes they support and think like entrepreneurs. For more than 40 years, GP Recycling has helped reduce landfill waste by giving materials a new life in products people use every day. We are also one of the world's largest pure traders of recycled fiber, handling more than 100,000 tons each week.

What You Will Do

  • Process accounts payable and receivable exceptions
  • Research and resolve customer inquiries with timely, accurate support
  • Assist with reconciliations and account balancing
  • Partner with internal teams to solve issues and improve processes
  • Prioritize effectively and adapt to changing business needs
  • Apply critical thinking to make sound decisions using prior experience and context
  • Work independently to resolve issues with business partners and internal teams
  • Seek and share knowledge, identify improvement opportunities, challenge the status quo, and recommend solutions
  • Support our Principles-Based Management culture by applying our Guiding Principles to create value and drive long-term operational excellence

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in accounts payable, invoice processing, or related accounting support
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Excel and Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 experience

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or Business
  • Knowledge of core accounting processes, including the general ledger, intercompany transactions, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
  • Experience with international shipping terms such as DAP and EXW, including Incoterms responsibilities
