Your Job

As a Regional Sawfiler Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise to support saw and guide performance across Georgia-Pacific Lumber operations. You will partner closely with site teams to improve safety, reliability, and production outcomes while driving continuous improvement in saw quality, uptime, and overall mill performance.

What You Will Do

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to guide shop and filers by setting best practices, assigning work priorities, and supporting training and development.
  • Serve as a regional subject matter expert (SME) for saw filing and guide shop operations, providing troubleshooting and technical support across sites.
  • Train on or perform saw filer work as needed, including shaping, sharpening, leveling, benching, tensioning, and saw repair (e.g., brazing or welding), and coordinate with saw suppliers when appropriate.
  • Diagnose and resolve saw performance issues, perform machine alignments, and support maintenance of filing and guide shop equipment.
  • Support inventory and vendor management by participating in ordering filing stock, tools, and supplies; monitoring inventory; and working with suppliers to resolve quality or supply issues, including division level technical analysis to ensure supplier accountability.
  • Partner with Green End superintendents, supervisors, maintenance, and operations teams to maintain saw and guide quality, minimize downtime, and address production challenges.
  • Ensure saws meet industrial and Georgia-Pacific standards to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
  • Promote and reinforce safety expectations by leading safety discussions aligned with Principle Based Management (PBM), coaching safe work practices (including PPE and lockout/tagout), and maintaining clean, organized work areas.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and loss accounting activities, maintain saw maintenance records, monitor performance metrics, and contribute to improvements in uptime, throughput, and recovery.
  • Maintain flexibility by performing other tasks as needed to support operational and business objectives.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Several years of experience as a journeyman or experienced Saw Filer with strong technical knowledge of saw types, filing techniques, and sawmill equipment.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to coach, train, and influence others without formal authority.
  • Proficient with hand tools, grinding and sharpening equipment, welding or brazing techniques, and alignment and troubleshooting tools.
  • Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality and reliability.
  • Effective communicator who works well with operations, maintenance, and technical teams across multiple sites.
