Position description

Full Specialist - Irannejad lab

This position exists to explore the role of compartmentalized GPCR in cells and in intact mice. The experiments involve working with mice, isolating specific cell types from various tissues such as heart and brain at various developmental stages. The experiments also involve a mix of molecular biology, cellular signaling assay as well as preparing samples for mass spectrometry and RAN-sequencing.

Below is the list of duties that are required:

1) Isolation and culture of neonatal and adult cardiomyocytes. We require expression of various biosensors in cardiomyocytes, therefore maintain the culture for minimum of 7 days is required. Precision, attention to detail, and impeccable technique are required to maintain these cultures.

2) Isolation and culture of neurons from striatum, cortex, hippocampus, and hypothalamus. We require expression of various biosensor in these cultures, therefore maintaining the culture for 14-18 days is required. Precision, attention to detail, and impeccable technique are required to maintain these cultures.

3) Performing molecular biology techniques, western blots and various cellular signaling assays such as BRET and luminescence readouts.

4) Fixed and live cell imaging using various biosensors to measure dynamics of cellular signaling repones, such as G protein activation, cAMP and calcium signaling. Careful attention to detail is imperative in following fluorescence readouts.

5) Mouse colony maintenance, breeding and genotyping.

6) Lenti and AAV viral preparation and injection. We also require primary culture infection of lenti and AAV virus.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or MD/PhD degree with at least 4 years of postdoctoral training in cell biology and physiology of GPCR signaling in primary culture.
  • Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire.
  • Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred an individual with extensive experience in GPCR signaling assays in isolated primary cultures of neurons and cardiomyocytes and extensive experience working with mice.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $93,200 - $194,800.
