Responsibilities: In the role of Environmental Scientist II, we'll count on you to: * Collect project-related data, which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, land use, etc * Assimilate and manage data * Prepare constraints mapping * Lead field investigations for natural resources, such as wetlands, protected species habitat, trees, etc. * Define the level of environmental analysis required * Conduct environmental impact assessments * Perform complex assignments, making independent decisions on problems and methods * Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings * Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance * Work independently on medium-size projects, or assist more-senior scientists on larger projects * Perform other related duties as needed Preferred Qualifications: * Ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, research, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills * USFWS Permit for various species * Experience leading field teams and conducting natural resource surveys * Experience preparing proposals, schedules, and cost estimates, as well managing execution of environmental tasks in support of public and private projects. * Experience in regulatory permit coordination and agency consultation (ex. USACE, USFWS) * Experience with City of Austin environmental permitting * Experience in erosion and sedimentation control plans and inspections
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
- 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel)
- Strong environmental writing and communication skills
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
