| Position Summary |
The primary responsibilities of the College Advisor are to meet with assigned students and provide each student with accurate information about the student's intended degree program, from major admission to graduation. A high level of independent work is expected in service to students. A College Advisor must maintain consistent contact with their students, maintain accurate student records and respond in a timely manner to questions from their students.
This position is also dedicated to a partnership with the
UGA Exploratory Center during all freshman and transfer orientation sessions/advising requirements during summer and spring orientation dates. |

Advise Terry Major/Certificate Students
Meet with assigned students to advise them on departmental and University curriculum requirements and to provide in-depth information and answer questions related to majors and/or certificates in the Terry College of Business. Provide each student with accurate information about the student's program of study, make recommendations about course selection for upcoming semesters, generate advising forms detailing these recommendations and maintain notes about advising meetings. Provide accurate information regarding students' academic progress from major/certificate admission to graduation. Answer student questions and concerns in a timely manner by phone, email and on a walk-in basis. Direct students to resources on campus, including but not limited to other departments/colleges at
UGA, study abroad programs, tutoring and other forms of academic assistance, etc. Advisors at this level are expected to have full knowledge of resources that support students in areas other than their academic life and to refer students to appropriate individuals and offices as needed. Collaborate with departmental advisors for applicable majors on student outreach and departmental initiatives, including performing graduation checks and maintaining accurate records for assigned students. Create and update advising materials; maintain up-to-date records on students in the major and department-related programs (e.g., certificates). Archive such records as necessary. |

Attend Meetings & Professional Development
Maintain knowledge of the rules and policies of the school affecting degree/certificate programs by regularly attending mandatory staff/advisor meetings. Regularly attending advisor workshops and other professional development opportunities closely related to academic advising (i.e., Certificate in Advising, Diversity Certificate and others) is also an expectation of the position. Attend Terry and
UGA functions as required (including but not limited to Terry Majors Fair, Terry Convocation, Terry Major Orientation,
UGA Orientation Sessions, Welcome Back Events, , etc.). Meet periodically with direct supervisor and departmental advisors in applicable majors to coordinate assignments and enhance internal communication efforts. |
