POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for setting the strategy and leading the Professional Education for the Cardiac Surgery Franchise, as well as developing and executing the strategic educational plan for Cardiac Surgeons. This includes domestic and international (in collaboration with the international team) cardiac surgery Medical Societies, with the objective to integrate procedural techniques into society guidelines and recommendations and working with society leadership to establish and publish quality metrics for procedures involving surgical ablation and LAAM. This role will also work with medical schools to develop and incorporate curriculum into the training requirements focused on the surgical treatment of Atrial Fibrillation and LAAM. This role will also focus on having this educational information added to board review courses, exams and part of the competency checklist for graduating cardiac surgery fellows and residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:



  • Collaborates cross-functionally with departments across the company to ensure alignment on strategy, discussions, and plans regarding Cardiac Surgery Education, society relations; in particular, proactively meet regularly with the following groups: Product Marketing and Strategy, Corporate Marketing and Communications, Healthcare Economics and Reimbursement, and US Sales leadership
  • Build strong relationships with the leadership of key cardiac surgery societies to influence and discuss procedural guidelines, quality metrics, fellows and resident curriculum, and medical school training programs. Provide regularly updates and reports to the sales and marketing leadership including marketing franchise leaders
  • Identify, develop and bridge relationships with KOL's to include AtriCure leadership
  • Ensure society leadership has the most up to date clinical outcomes and publications in order to help drive guideline updates, establish best practices and develop quality metrics and ensure alignment with key company initiatives
  • Identifies opportunities for collaboration on education with medical schools to develop and incorporate curriculum into the training requirements focused on the surgical treatment of Atrial Fibrillation and LAAM
  • Focus on having surgical ablation and LAAM information and curriculum added to board review courses, exams and part of the competency checklist for graduating fellows and residents
  • Identifies gaps in education and training for residents and fellows and conveys needs to Director, Fellows Programs and Education
  • Works with the Marketing and Events organization to ensure any recommendations on the strategic direction of grants for societies is well coordinated and communicated
  • Strategic assessment of key global Cardiac Societies and executive summary including membership data, organizational priorities and long-term plans, board of directors, collaborative industry partners and affiliate societies
  • Serves at the subject matter expert on concomitant cardiac procedures and develops physician champions and speakers
  • Collaborates with Marketing, Sales and other departments as necessary to identify cardiac surgery educational needs and gaps and develops physician programs and courses keeping content relevant and contemporary and identifies new training techniques and best practices to optimize outcomes
  • Increase base of surgeon trainers and speakers based on internal criteria and input from other departments
  • Support physician training for trials, product assessments and new procedural techniques
  • Work with legal, regulatory, and other departments to ensure all compliance and other contractual requirements are met for the cardiac surgery programs

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Marketing, Education, Science or related area
  • Must have a working understanding of operating room and electrophysiology procedures and training processes
  • Must have 15 years of experience in the field of healthcare or medical device preferably in Cardiac Surgery with a strong bias on education. Should have existing relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and Societies in the industry
  • People management and leadership skills required
  • Competencies - Leadership skills, clinical knowledge, product knowledge, business acumen, management skills, customer focus, strategic agility, people management, emotional intelligence
  • Ability to travel 25%



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • MBA preferred
  • Medical and/or scientific and medical education or marketing emphasis preferred



OTHER REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to regularly walk, sit, or stand as needed
  • Ability to occasionally bend and push/pull as needed
  • Ability to pass hospital and account credentialing
