Job Description

Shift: Morning
Pay Rate: $37.38



The Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of facility infrastructure, grounds, and production machinery. This role combines hands-on mechanical expertise with administrative leadership, including workforce scheduling, inventory management, and maintenance planning. The Lead Mechanic plays a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and safety compliance.



Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program
* Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns, including:
o Conducting pre- and post-shutdown meetings
o Organizing detailed maintenance work lists
o Scheduling manpower to ensure timely completion
* Schedule and supervise maintenance crew activities and daily tasks
* Manage and maintain production equipment parts inventory
* Oversee and coordinate work performed by outside contractors
* Assist production teams in troubleshooting and resolving process and equipment issues
* Serve as the administrative lead for safety programs, including:
o Material Handling
o Working at Heights
o Hot Work
o Storm Water Compliance
* Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

* Minimum of 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment
* Proven ability to lead maintenance teams and manage multiple priorities
* Strong problem-solving and communication skills
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.



Technical Skills & Abilities:
* Ability to read and interpret:
o Mechanical detail and assembly drawings
o Piping & Instrumentation (P&I) diagrams
o Pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
* Proficiency in:
o Bearing installation and alignment
o Pump repair and maintenance
o Roll bearing disassembly and reassembly
o Precision measurement (micrometers, verifying tolerance)
o Coupling alignment
* Strong troubleshooting skills in:
o Instrumentation (pressure, level, distance, proximity sensors, solenoids)
o Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
o Basic electrical systems
* Working knowledge of PLCs and drives
* Welding experience required
* Knowledge of proper rigging and lifting practices
* Strong organizational and time-management skills



Work Environment & Schedule:
* Hourly position: schedule may include extended hours, weekends, and on-call responsibilities during shutdowns or emergency repairs
* Work performed in an industrial setting with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying environmental conditions
