PennAero is hiring a Tooling Supervisor at our Allfast Fastening Systems location in City of Industry, CA. Allfast Fastening Systems is a leading global manufacturer of solid and blind rivets, blind bolts, temporary fasteners, and installation tools for the aerospace industry. Overview:
The Tooling supervisor will serve as the critical
liaison between the Production Floor, Quality Department, and Engineering to
ensure all tooling requirements align with manufacturing goals, quality
standards, and design specifications.
Reporting directly to the Heading Manager, the supervisor will be responsible for managing the entire tooling lifecycle-from sourcing and
replenishment to implementing a modern management system to track tool life and
usage. They will drive department productivity, reduce machine
downtime, increase pin and sleeve heading throughput and support our continuous
improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Cross-Functional
Collaboration & Liaison
- Act as
the primary point of contact and liaison between the Production
Floor, Quality Department, and Engineering to resolve
tooling-related issues and implement engineering changes.
- Work
closely with Quality to ensure all manufactured and procured tooling meets
strict dimensional and tolerance requirements.
- Partner
with the Production Floor to troubleshoot tooling failures and optimize
machining setups for maximum efficiency.
Tooling Lifecycle &
Inventory Management
- Spearhead
the implementation and maintenance of a robust tooling management
system to accurately track, control, and analyze tool life and
usage data.
- Manage
the tooling inventory, ensuring optimal stock levels are maintained to
prevent production delays while minimizing carrying costs.
- Oversee
the procurement, replenishment, and timely delivery of standard and custom
tooling components.
- Coordinate
with internal toolrooms or external vendors to have specialized tooling
fabricated according to engineering blueprints.
Productivity & Department
Support
- Assist
the Heading Manager in executing the department's
strategic goals, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Analyze
tool wear patterns and machine downtime data to implement preventive
measures, directly contributing to increased productivity and
reduced downtime.
- Establish
standard operating procedures (SOPs) for tool handling, setup, and
maintenance.
- Oversee
the work of Tool Technicians and staff to support the build-out of the
Tooling support resource team.
This role is required to be on-site 5 days at the City of Industry, CA location.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field.
- 10 years of experience in a machining, tooling, or manufacturing environment,
with at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Deep understanding of machining processes (e.g.,
heading, CNC, milling, turning), tool design, wear characteristics, and
metallurgy.
- Proven experience working with or implementing Tool
Management Systems, Inventory Software, or ERP/MRP systems.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings,
geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and technical
specifications.
- Exceptional
interpersonal and communication skills to effectively bridge the gap
between floor operators, quality inspectors, and engineers.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on root-cause
analysis for tool failures and production bottlenecks.
Compensation
In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $130,000 - $145,000.
Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
