POSITION DESCRIPTION
EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATION REPRESENTATIVE

POSITION OBJECTIVES: To support Jackson EMC's Vision, Mission, and Values through the development and publication of creative employee content and the planning of Jackson EMCspecial employee meetings and events; engage employees at all levels of the organization in Jackson EMC's strategic planning process through interactive communication; positively impactJackson EMC's employee engagement through reinforcement of key messages; support
Communication Department efforts to foster an understanding of department/district interrelation and promote company pride and commitment; provide appropriate avenues for employee feedback; maintain and enhance the cooperative's reputation and image among internal
audiences to build satisfaction; to work and communicate in a team-oriented environmentconsistent with the Vision, Mission and Values of the Cooperative.

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Require Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or Communications.
Prefer undergraduate curriculum with courses in liberal arts, business administration, public
relations, or advertising in addition to special courses in digital media and communications
research.

EXPERIENCE: Require a minimum of two (2) years of responsible experience in the field of
creative writing, editing, Internet/intranet management, photography, and public relations with
business or industry. Prefer experience in employee communication with a service type
organization, preferably in the field of rural electrification. Prefer work in digital media.

KNOWLEDGE: Require a working knowledge of principles and practices in the areas of
creative and journalistic writing, employee communication, general business management
principles, community relations programming, and communication and information services with
consumers, employees, and the public. Require a working knowledge of photography and word
processing as applied to news interest and publication. Require understanding of general
business management principles, communication evaluation, electronic communication, and
strategic communications planning. Require the ability to pursue a continuous program of selfdevelopment both inside and outside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and accept increasing responsibilities.

SKILLS: Require effective leadership skills, excellent communication skills, both written and
verbal, and the ability to work in a team environment. Require the ability to design, develop,
implement, and evaluate strategic employee communication programs. Require the ability to
strategize digital communications messages and plan and produce effective written and visual
communications materials. Require the ability to work with external vendors to achieve desired
results. Require the ability to plan and manage digital communications research and develop
resulting recommendations.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS AND CONDITIONS:
Reports to: Reports to: Manager, Employee Communication
Directs: None

Internal: Shall foster the development of those supportive relationships essential to the fulfilling
of the functions of this position, achieving the results expected and encouraging throughout the
organization the concepts of teamwork and Cooperative spirit and vision.
External: Shall maintain supportive relationships with member-consumers, the general public,
and other external contacts to ensure that satisfactory results are achieved.
This position is primarily sedentary work; requires visual acuity in machine operation with
inspection; requires ability to hear, talk, and perform repetitive motions; and is not substantially
exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop and publish written, visual, and multimedia content to the company's Intranet
site, jtoday.jacksonemc.com, to offer employees timely news, information, and company
resources.
2. Generate content for the company's print employee newsletter, Jemclips, and an
employee email newsletter, to effectively provide employees up-to-date information on
cooperative activities, business developments, and industry issues, in addition to
employee community activities and involvement.
3. Assist Employee Communications Manager with the development and implementation of
new employee communication programs, employee presentations, and employee
communication platforms and programs.
4. Plan, develop, and implement retiree and employee events as required.
5. Manage employee directory photos in digital assets manager and coordinate companywide headshots.
6. Manage digital sign program and coordinate with IT on management of hardware and
software.
7. Maintain new employee welcome resources, employee orientation presentation, and
other materials as needed.
8. Attend job training and safety meetings as required or directed.
9. Be familiar with and follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative's Safety
Manual.
10. Actively participate in community and chamber of commerce activities as directed.
11. Participate in Annual Meeting as required or directed.
12. Perform other such duties as may be required or directed.
