MedStar Health is looking for an Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center!

This is a skilled technical position that coordinates delivery of healthcare services using ultrasound toassistin diagnosis or treatment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Lead Technologist or the Manager of Medical Imaging.

Primary Duties:

  • Operates and documents all aspects of Ultrasound.Verifyprocedure for appropriateness and preparation has been performed. Verifies that the patient has consented totheprocedure and fully understands its risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up. Whenappropriate,verifiesthat a written or informed consent has been obtained. Provides patient information whichincludesLMPpointof tenderness, symptoms,allergies,or other information pertinent tothe exambeing performed. Prepares patientfor procedure; providinginstructionto obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety. Assumes responsibility forprovisionof physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures. Practice aseptictechniques,as necessary.Immobilizespatients asrequired.Positionspatient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Selects andoperatesimaging equipment, and or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures. Monitorspatientduringprocedure. Responsible for following established procedures and protocols and producingaccurateresults. Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and image labeling. Initiates basic life support action when necessary. Checks and orderssuppliesas needed. Participates in data collection fordepartment'squality assessment and improvement plan. Maybe responsible forspecific quality control duties in assigned areas. Reports equipment failure/problemsin a timely mannerto supervisor/ lead person.Assistsin training and education of employees, physicians,studentsand/or other healthcare professionals. Provides input for purchase of new equipment and supply decisionsProvidesinput for hire or new employee through peer interview process. May be responsible orassistincontrol ofinventory andpurchasing ofsupplies for assignedarea. Provides patient education as needed. Maintains knowledge of andobservesuniversal precautions.

  • Maintains a clean, safe, prepared work environment. Prepares room for procedure. Cleans andsterilizesequipment and procedure table before and after each procedure.Restocksandrequestsroom supplies that need to be replenished.Takeappropriate actionin case of fire or other emergency situations to provide a safe environment for patients,visitors,and staff.

  • Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure.Identifieslearning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs.Attends continuing education programs tomaintaincertification.Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allottedtimefor completion.

  • Works effectively within and between departments. Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge asappropriate. Provides department/unit with information and knowledgeacquiredduring participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit.

  • Responsible for following all protocols to ensureoptimumimage quality. Transport stable unmonitoredED (Emergency Department)patients to and from Ultrasound procedures. Transport stable unmonitored IPas available and needed Assist licensed practitioners with Ultrasound guided interventional procedures. Assist Medical Imaging front desk in answering phones, signing out images via films or CD, processing paperwork and scheduling procedures as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited program for Ultrasound Sonographers.

  • RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer).

  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

  • Experience in a hospital settingpreferred.
