The Opportunity with McKinstry

The McKinstry DER team is in need of a BESS Market Leader (Director-equivalent position) to spearhead our go-to-market strategy for BESS projects and coordinate internal stakeholders to position us for success in this market segment. With the solar ITC sunsetting and BESS market rapidly growing, McK's DER team's aggressive revenue targets for 2027-2030 depend on us capturing a significant share of this growing market. We need an experienced leader to address current gaps in the team 1) on the sales side, understanding and articulating the market dynamics/value proposition for the customer, 2) having a diverse set of products offerings/vendor relationships, and 3) being able to connect the dots between the customer value proposition and our offerings to optimize our solution, and 4) strategic leadership to drive our focus on the right markets, customers, products and processes to be a market-leader. Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include:

  • Developing McK BESS market strategy in coordination with DER sales team - target customers, markets/geographies, project types; articulating the McK value proposition.

  • Leading internal development of a compelling BESS offering - coordinating with procurement leader on McK strategic supplier relationships with BESS vendors; coordinating with McK engineering teams to optimize a range of offerings based on different BESS use cases.

  • Identifying and leading BESS-related internal process improvement efforts (eg. Expanding our O&M offering, developing customer savings models, etc).

  • Customer-facing "face of McK BESS" - staying up with industry trends and partnership opportunities at conferences; assisting with sales pursuits; leading exploration of partnership opportunities with BESS vendors, VPP/controls providers, etc

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Deep familiarity with US BESS market dynamics across US.

  • Deep familiarity with US BESS vendor and competitive landscape.

  • Strong communicator, strategic thinker and problem solver with accountability mindset, able to lead and influence diverse set of stakeholders through uncertainty to produce tangible results.

  • Technical background (engineering degree, project development/engineering work experience) is a plus.

The pay range for this position is $141,570 - $243,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
