As aMental Health Professional, you willmaintainresponsibility for evaluating patients in the Emergency Department whopresentwith psychiatric or related problems. Acts as consultant to staff in Emergency Department. Performs crisis intervention and counseling, support, and referral services to both psychiatric patients and their families.

Primary Duties:

• Performs psychiatric assessments and mental status evaluations on all patients present in the Emergency Department with psychiatric disorders or complaints.Contacts and consults with the psychiatrist-on-callregardingdiagnoses and recommendations for treatment for all psychiatric evaluations.

• Maintains open and continuous communications with Emergency Department staff and consults with Emergency Department physicianregardingfinal diagnosis and disposition plans.

• Plansfor hospital admission, transfer to anotherfacilityor follow-up for patients with a local agency. Usesage-appropriategames, rewards and praise when explaining and performing treatments and procedures.

• Facilitates both voluntary and involuntary admissions by contacting insurance companies for preauthorization when necessary, givingreportsto the accepting unit or facility and completing allappropriate paperwork.

• Maintains logs on the computer of all patients formally evaluated by Mental Health Professionals in the Emergency Department.Documents in patient medicalrecord.AttendsEmergency Psychiatric Services staff meetings and other meetings asrequested.

Qualifications:

• MSW (Master of Social Work)or MSN(Master of Science in Nursing), or master's degree in counseling, Psychology or related field or Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field.

• 1-2 years Clinical experiencerelatedtomental health.
